What Changes Would You Like To See In "The Deadly Years"?

Those are givens....but I wonder how many Romulan ships they'll be showing this time (the script, I think, said 11 or 12). Some of them have to be cloaked or decloaked. If the people at CBS Digital are smart, they'll stick to their promises from last year and we'll be seeing many different angles of the beautiful Bird-of-Prey. I can't wait to see what the Romulan ships will be firing, if we see anything at all (seeing as how powerful the plasma weapon was that the Enterprise had to avoid a single hit, will we see it again?) And this time they'll presumably be shot from the point-of-view of side long shots (or wide side shots...whatever the correct terminology is).

As long as they don't use that awful over-paneled backlit shot of the BoP again. that was hideous.

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See In "The Deadly Years"

Should we be seeing the BOP or the Romulan version of the D-7 or a mixed set of ships?

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See In "The Deadly Years"

Just the Romulan ships; showing the D7 spoils the opening of "The Enterprise Incident".

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See In "The Deadly Years"

Assuming they remember that since they work on episodes out of airing order.

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See In "The Deadly Years"

We'll probably be seeing the BOPs, since they were seen in the original version and it's such a great ship.

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See In "The Deadly Years"

I've made it a habit of watching original version of the episodes before watching the remastered versions for comparative reasons. This episode will be interesting to watch because there are dissolves from live action to space shots and back to live action. From what I've seen of previous episodes, I expect the new dissolves will be quicker and cut more into the live action shots than the originals.

Also, I've read in the STAR TREK COMPENDIUM that there is a scene where we see Old Geezer Kirk reverting back to his original age. I've never seen such a scene, but that might be because the episode I have is a syndicated version from the 80's. Is there such a scene in the actual episode?

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See In "The Deadly Years"

That is what I would expect, but the CBS Digital team has surprised me before.

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See In "The Deadly Years"

I'm hoping the Romulan ship that engages the Enterprise under the command of Stocker is an all-new CGI rendition and not just stock footage from the Remastered edition of "Balance of Terror." I know Okuda and CBS/Paramount want to stick to the original spirit of each episode, but recycling old stock footage just like the original 1967 episode did would be going TOO far.

IIRC, we just see Kirk's legs writhing in pain.

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See In "The Deadly Years"

Yeah, all we saw in the original were Kirk's legs moving about in pain as the formula took effect. Nothing will be added here. No new CGI morphing effects of any kind so far as I can discern.

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See In "The Deadly Years"

JUST saw the Remastered edition of the episode about two hours ago. I won't list blow-for-blow all of the changes(there aren't that many)but I'll say this much:

The new space combat scenes with the Enterprise and cloaked/decloaking Romulan ships? VERY nice. More impressive and three-dimensional than I thought they'd be able to pull off with just a handful of viewscreen and open space shots that could be changed.

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See In "The Deadly Years"

My first time viewing this episode ever and the Romulan ships were a highlight. They seemed quite agile (the EFX had them in a very fluid motion which was different) and surrounded the Enterprise in a manner like "The Enterprise Incident" but of course were opening fire. I think it was an updating of TOS-style EFX, with the shield flares and weapons fire looking not quite photo-realistic or such as in later TNG/DS9/movies. But it did create a fascinating sense of history from the Romulan Neutral Zone confrontations of then, 23rd century, and 24th.

The planet this time was very craggy looking, lots of ridges, and that part seemed very realistic as far as the Trek EFX style.

Is that basically all there were?

Aside from new shots of Gamma Hydra IV and the Enterprise orbiting it, yes. But then this episode didn't have many space effects until late in the script when the Romulans surround the ship in the Neutral Zone.
