What Changes Would You Like To See For The Squire of Gothos?

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See For The Squire of Got

Point well taken.

I guess it just seems odd from our perspective. A near-omnipotent race of energy beings who can create whole planets as toys and playthings...needing what amounts to a giant icemaker or turboprop engine block from a Cessna behind a Scarlett O'Hara mirror to help focus and channel a child's/adolescent's growing, nascent powers. It just looks funny, that's all. Trelane is an awesome character and I love his race of glowing energy beings, but the convenient machine behind the mirror always bugged me a little and made me chuckle a tad.

Why people assume they are energy beings is funny, I realize that seems to be the idea... but that can be retconed. Perhaps they just use glowing blobs to hide their true nature, which is a common theme in Star Trek come to think of it. :)

Well Spock does state explicitly that they are beings of 'pure thought' with no corporeal bodies. I guess it all depends on whether you consider 'thought' a form of energy or not.

I did notice they kept the original sound effects, the repeated "DOIIIING!" and the Vaudeville-ish slide whistle.

I'm surprised Trelane's dickey didn't roll up and slap him in the chin.

Also remember that Spock beamed up "all life forms"...and Trelane did NOT register.

"It's life, Jim, but NOT as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it." ;)

Oh, they pull that ``not a life form'' on everything, including plants and animals. They can detect a match on another planet but they can't find the massive industrial complex tucked underneath the idyllic grassy enclave.

Yeah, the Benny Hill-like sound effects straight out of an old Vaudeville show never get old. Could you imagine if they used that "BOIIIIIIIIING" springy sound clip in a modern TREK episode or movie when something goes kablooey? The message boards would literally disintegrate from the heat of angry posters. :guffaw:
