What Changes Would You Like To See For The Squire of Gothos?

AC84

Not really an effects heavy episode, but has a lot of potential opportunities for enhancements.

I personally have a sneaking suspicion they'll do something with the internal machinery of the mirror and Trelane's parents.

maybe when they go outside we see just how alien the rest of the planet is outside of that little pocket survival zone.

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See For The Squire of Got

I'd love to NOT see through Gothos as the planet chases the Enterprise. Actually, I'm hoping the new effects come off even more spookily than the originals.

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See For The Squire of Got

The "planet chasing" sequence will be jazzed up, I'm sure. Trelane's mirror "mechanism" needs to be re-thought (get rid of all the gears and springs).

That's about it.

John DeLancie's voice as Trelane's father. :p

Can you imagine the shitstorm?!?

The anus of every obsessive nerd on the planet would suck in so much air, their ears would pop. It'd be as if someone proved the value of Pi was exactly 2.83.

^ Then they should do this just for the entertainment value.

And rightfully so.

How about when Kirk shoots the machine, they take out the cartoon sound effects? You know, the sliding flute and the "boinnng".

The one in "The Man Trap" gets me, too: when Crater gets phasered, the sound effect is the same as if the Lone Ranger just shot a boulder in front of a rustler. "Pah-WEEOW!"

Joe, ducking

Can they make Campbell's performance about 40% less gay? :D

:guffaw: :guffaw:

it had to be said. Thanks. With that candelabra, I always think of Liberace playing the part...

And especially to piss off the "everything but TOS sucks" crowd. In what way is it NOT a good thing to see neo-Luddites squirm? :guffaw:

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See For The Squire of Got

I'd love to see a three-dimensional Gothos actually chase the Enterprise in realistic fashion. The old 1966 f/x just had a semi-transparent Gothos matte painting getting closer and zigging/zagging back and forth on the viewscreen. REAL cheesy. With new CGI we can actually show the Enterprise dodging and running from a textured, spherical Gothos.

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See For The Squire of Got

Yeah, ever since I was a little kid I found the superimposed matte painting shots of Gothos "chasing" the ship to be terrible. And this episode ranks in my top ten or dozen of all TOS stories, with almost nothing else to slam or criticize. I hope Okuda and his CGI team did a "Doomsday Machine"-worthy effort on the new planet chase footage and make this sequence really believable looking.

Re: What Changes Would You Like To See For The Squire of Got

I vote that every time someone opines that they should "leave it the hell alone," the original negatives of the episode in question should be burned, and the unaltered version of that episode should never again be aired or made available for purchase. I think that if someone is going to insist on bitching, they may as well be bitching about something.

"Oh, no, they're altering the episode, while keeping the original version widely and easily available!" is not something worth complaining about.

Since, of course, there's no reason to oppose a stupid idea to shrink the Star Trek universe to ideally no more than eight participants other than being a rabidly irrational hater who wants to destroy everything done since 1968.
