Oh no no no, you are not. I for one, believe why this small, yet significant scene is why this episode is indeed titled "The Omega Glory".

Perhaps, one way that scene can be improved is to have the focal point of this scene run in slow motion.

IIRC, not even all of the final act is that way. Things only start going downhill when they march in with the American flag. The final few minutes are painful.

There isn't much I can think off to change other than the afore-mentioned beauty shots of the Enterprise and Exeter. There might be some nice things to be done with some of the phaser effects, but not very much else.

First time I saw the US Flag I thought it was a variation on Patterns of Force...the result of cultural contamination. Always like the hokey "ee plebnista" bit for some stupid reason. I'm thinking it's 'cause of Shatner's moronic, sudden realization of what he's "reading".

If I were to advise a change I would touch probably only two things.

- beauty shots of Enterprise and Exeter in orbit.
- insert something of a variation of the Yangs' flag so that it isn't so blatantly an exact duplicate of an early U.S. flag.

Well, Gene was a better "re-writer" than he was a writer.

I believe that Gene himself did not even list "The Omega Glory" as one of his Top 10 favorite Star Trek episodes for TV Guide 2 months prior to his death in 1991.
