What Changes Would You Have For "The Ultimate Computer"?

AC84

I want to see insane hull expolsions on the Excalibur. I think we all do. But most of all, I don't want to see a DY-100 automated freighter.

^ More ship designs, yes !

And battle damage is a must on all the ships in the "Wargames" why else would M5 feel remorse after all ?

This episode gave Mythbusters the name for thier workshop....

M5 Industries ;)

Three-dimensional wargame maneuvers, an all-new redesign(possibly recycling a few ideas from ENTERPRISE's 22nd century warp cargo ships?)for the automated Woden freighter, and more realistic attacks and strafing runs by the other starships on the Enterprise.

I really do hope so. I have a sneaking suspicion they might have forgotten to add that in. They forgot in "In A Mirror, Darkly".

Just saw the Remastered episode about an hour or so ago.

Mixed feelings, I must say. Great new digital starships and a few really nice battle shots, but they simply aren't on screen or close enough to the camera/our point of view to get really sharp looks at the new Constitution-class vessels in the wargame squadron.

What does the Excalibur look like at the end? Broken off nacelles? Black smudges with glowing shades of orange and red bleeding out? Any type of visible battle damage? I'm going to be a little disappointed if you say no, although I'm sure I'll enjoy the actual battle. But I wanted to see them really fuck up the Excalibur. Something that would scare a small child and put a big smile on an older child. Something that would make a typical 20 year old Star Wars fan go "...whoa."

It's a bit farther off in the distance than the original stock footage of the Constellation. It's impossible to tell at that size what damage has been done.

....awwwwwwwww! :(

At the risk of showing my age, that sucks. If they didn't have enough time and money to show off any battle damage, I would understand. I'd make the same call.

I would have changed the M5 label on the computer to Microsoft, or simply M5 - Vista

That was a bit of a disappointment. It renders the lines concerning damage done a bit less powerful when there is no visible evidence of destruction.

Also, they maintained the tight formation shot of the original, and just changed the POV. That shot always seemed a bit odd to me since under the circumstances of wargames, and especially wargames in which sneak attacks ("unscheduled drills") are allowed, four starships flying in tight formation would present a better target than four dispersed.

Yeah, I get the need to show a bigass, powerful opponent to give added power to what M5 faces, and pathos to what M5 pulls off. I just wish it could have been done another way.

I think the tight grouping is fine. Spock notes right after that the ships break and attack at will. If it were me, I'd break formation right outside weapons range, hoping the multiple attack vectors would confuse and overwhelm the M5.

Also in such a tight formation the ships' shields should be able to support one another, much as we've seen the Enterprise extend its shields to protect other vessels. Using that tactic, the attack force could drive right in on top of a single target and plaster it while remaining practically invulnerable to a retaliatory strike.

I think the Excalibur should've been pounded a lot more than she was. A visibly shattered starship would've been cool to see.

For those that haven't, the FX reel in on YouTube.

Overall it was very dissapointing that we didn't get the classic hull disinigrating in flames shot of the EXCALIBER that would give creedance that everyone died on the ship.

Way less impressive on a whole as I thought it would be.

It wouldn't have killed them to have reversed the POV for the final shot on Excalibur and show the damage up close. They already had a couple of shots similar to the angle they chose, why not swap it up?

Yeah, they already had a smashed up Connie from "The Doomsday Machine". Why they didn't re-use it to show the damage to the Excalibur makes no sense. The original F/X had enough sense to re-use it. Why not follow their lead with the new?

/I did like the new Starbase.
