Spoilers What are your unpopular Sci-Fi & Fantasy Opinions?

I think the 5th film has some of the best character scenes from any ST movie. Seeing Spock's pain about his dad feeling disappointed about him being so human. McCoy ending the life of his dad to spare him pain and Kirk refusing to let go of his pain.

Sadly it also has Spock having a half brother, going to the centre of the galaxy in hours and GOD storyline.

I agree with all the points in your first paragraph. For me though, it wasn't the half-brother and God storyline that bothered me...it was the "centre of the galaxy" part. And the kitschy comedy scenes (99th floor of the Enterprise, the Rocket Boots jokes, Scotty banging his head, etc.) I also didn't like how the effects were rendered--unlike previous movies, the ship's just seemed to "glow" in space.

The movie did have cool Trek stuff that we hadn't seen in previous movies like the Shuttlecraft and Kirk just being the Captain of the Enterprise.

Also I do like the shuttlecraft return and hitting warp almost instantly to avoid the BoP was a nice scene and was good to see Chekov in that role.

It's part of their regular teasing of each other, nothing more.

But I might add that Spock has said as many, perhaps more, "bigoted" things as McCoy. So Spock is just as guilty.

I said as much in the Original Series forum; Spock has criticized or downright condemned humans throughout the series in ways that would be seen as racist if the exchanges were between real people of different races.

Consider this: McCoy has never acted that way to any Vulcans other than Spock...

Good point.

I hate NuBSG with a passion. I hate that they all had contemporary names and wore contemporary clothing, that there were no aliens and honestly, I felt the whole show had it's head up it's own ass with how "mature" and "serious" and "dark" it thought it was.
The original wasn't a brilliant show either, but I'd watch any day over the "edgy" reboot.

And form what I heard the ending was crap on wheels.

Yeah, I was just curious how you guys would compare it to NuBSG and DS9, since it's probably Ron Moore's third most popular series after those two.

My biggest issue with the series is the fact that I felt lied to in every episode. When the title sequence says that the Cylons have a plan, it better be the best damn plan ever, almost fully ingrained into the Series bible. The Cylon plan sucked and it had a significant impact on the rest of the series for me. Also, it felt depressing just for depressing sake.

Also, it felt depressing just for depressing sake.
This was my biggest problem. The design work, the concepts of the world building were all very interesting. I personally like the uniform work and the ship design. Even the silly paper cut corners were kind of fun (which happened by accident) was kind of fun. But, yeah it was just depressing for depressing's sake.

Star Wars that is unrelated to the original three movies is absolute dog shit fueled entirely by nostalgia and if you took those movies/series that have come afterwards, removed the Star Wars name, they'd have flopped and been forgotten a long time ago because of how awful they were or because they relied entirely on things established in the originals. Grown men weeping while watching the new movies is like professional wrestling fans in their 40s going wild about someone getting punched.

Don't sugarcoat it. Tell us how you really feel.

I don't entirely disagree, btw, although I kinda liked Rogue One, even though it was depressing as hell.
