What are your thoughts on P+ TV Movies?

It's been suggested that Section 31 is the first in a series of one-off TV Movies, a first for the franchise.

What would you like to see afterwards?

I’m of the opinion that the next film will likely be Legacy/ the Picard movie as a backdoor pilot.

And then after that, movies with SNW and LD. Maybe movies based around Starfleet Academy and Discovery at some point. And something using the Prodigy art style, if not a Prodigy movie outright. Although if Paramount were to try another Star Trek film at theatres anytime soon, Prodigy or something like it would be movie.

After that though, who knows what’s next?

I like the idea. I've heard rumours of a Discovery movie or Star Trek: Legacy as a movie coming next.

I'd like to see totally new crews on adventures. Anything can happen, anyone can die. I'd like to see them take the risks they won't with ongoing shows.

Individual movies and / or miniseries can work and should be attempted. Discovery, remember, was meant to be an anthology-type series a'la Amercan Horror Story, with a new setting each season, but that was kiboshed pretty quickly.

That gives you the ability to delve into some niche ideas that may not (probably don't) have the strength to carry an ongoing series. A Captain Sulu movie? Sounds great. A follow-up miniseries to DS9? Sure. A 13-episode Starfleet Academy series? Why not? A Section 31 film? Yep. A Klingon-centric romp in the vein of The Mandalorian? Doable.

You could do a lot to fill in the universe of Star Trek with things like that. We see bits of it in Picard Season 1 (What people not in Starfleet do, what the Romulans do when they aren't committing subterfuge, etc) and those were the strongest parts of the season. You can enrich the background and give the main Starfleet stories something to hang on to via these looks at other parts of the universe.

A 13-episode Starfleet Academy series? Why not?

Even though I’m not the biggest fan of the SA idea, even I realize it can go on for four seasons. Maybe five if they want to explore a super senior cadet, or a returning dropout, or a faculty arc.

A Klingon-centric romp in the vein of The Mandalorian? Doable.

This too could last multiple seasons and basically be PIC S1 for all three seasons i.e. adult tone depicting life outside of Starfleet.

It could also be based on Worf & Raffi, as a spinoff from PIC.

Right now I don't see these as TV movies, but as movies just like the others, that just happen to be released directly to streaming. "TV movie" suggests a cheaper quality. I think we'll be getting something more sophisticated than the first 10 movies.

Tv movies, streaming movies . It's really semantics. But yeah the "TV movie" term is kinda outdated in 2024.

The biggest obstacle with science fiction has always been budget. Set building and effecrs can make this endeavor pretty costly. However TV has closed the gap in recent years in terms of delivering cinematic productions. That and the advent of the AR wall I think has positioned Trek to finally enter this arena.

Star Trek preferred to think of these as feature length episodes. To indicate a higher quality than tv movies.

As for another idea for the P+ films, something they’ll probably do is a Defenders-style crossover involving all the P+ Star Trek series.

Oh the Section 31 film is soon to be wrapped up completely. Such said, what'll be good ideas, from you guys, for a set of new star trek movies upon Paramount+?

After Section 31, it's probably a Legacy movie, and I'd certainly be happy with that.

I would actually be scared to death of them bringing back the entire TNG crew for a victory lap, so I hope it's a smaller/tighter story. Jeri Ryan is bound to be in it as Captain Seven, so add a little Kate Mulgrew into the mix and watch the sparks fly.

I'd enjoy the Tal Shiar as the main antagonist, if they still exist, stealing the idea of a New Romulus colony world from STO and the struggle to remain free. Otherwise, it could be a simple story about a few ex-Voyager members having to return to the Delta Quadrant to try and reestablish contact. Then it all goes wrong...

As for the following movie, I'd love an Enterprise-era follow up, even if it's very unlikely. I do like the idea of seeing what Archer was up to between his Captaincy and Presidency.

It merged with Skydance now. I think we'll see 2 or 3 TV movies every year.

I'd wait till Shari Redstone's signature is dry before calling it.

Also not sure why 2 - 3 TV movies a year would be a given. I'd be reluctant to make assumptions of any kind before a merger.

I'm sure Trek is on their radar. Beyond that ...

Two to three a year is very unlikely. I still think Kurtzman's initial timeline of one every other year is far more realistic. But with Skydance in charge, I'm more optimistic that Section 31 won't be both the first and last Paramount+ Trek movie.

Honestly, we still have no idea what will happen now. There's just as much chance that Skydance will kill P+ and everything on it as much as they would keep it and continue on whatever path CBS/Paramount was making for themselves.

The only thing that's even halfway definite is now there is a greater chance of a new Star Trek theatrical movie finally being made, even though what we've heard about it so far sounds pretty stupid.
