And the whole point of the exercise is those elements aren't (or don't have to be) exclusive to Prime.Prime *because* he wants to use Prime elements.

HEY NOW!!! It could be a Rocket Richard limited edition Canadian quarter from 1978--that is definitely NOT meaningless.Fuller's "Prime" comment is like someone throwing a Canadian coin in a homeless persons cup. They got something, but it was ultimately meaningless.

Honestly, when one looks at what happened with TMP and TNG, they would likely fall under the term "reboot" now (retooling back then). Total changes in look and tone, as they filtered out what Roddenberry considered the sillier (fun) elements of TOS to try and make Trek more serious sci-fi. Heck, TNG was "retooled" in season three as well. When a different writing staff came in and took over.
The various shows share a calendar to some degree, but they really never looked or felt the same as TOS.
You seem to focus on the minutiae of a timeline, but that's not what I'm talking about. I see the Prime timeline as a large canvas. Stories can use it if they need to, or not. But, I'm not talking about being a slave to all the tiny details.
Fuller said the story could be told in either timeline but chose the Prime *because* he wants to use Prime elements. I'm sure he's talking about the large historical scope and context of that timeline rather than the tiny details! Come on, have some faith in the guy and his team!

But the truth is: TNG wasn't a reboot. Not even a re-tooling.
These two statements are incongruous. And Star Trek. It's basically the same premise as the original (in this case: starship exploting the universe), but with new actors and new characters. Star Trek: TNG did a lot right there, in that it didn't try to copy the original, but had many changes and additions, so that it stood firmly on it's own.
You don't know what elements he's going to use. You're just guessing. And the whole point of the exercise is those elements aren't (or don't have to be) exclusive to Prime.
But that tv-Trek would return to the prime universe - in whatever timeframe - I thought that was pretty obvious, and my many comments explaining the reasoning thor that in the old thread (titled "the new series will not be set in the JJverse") can prove that. And I stand by what I said there.
If you think that, you don't know the definition of the words. These two statements are incongruous.
In the end, the series could occur in either universe and it wouldn't matter in any substantial sense. The rest is just window dressing.
Full disclosure: I expected a Kelvinverse show but don't care either way (to me, Trek's time travel has created a whole whack of universes--it's ALL Star Trek as far as I'm concerned).
Let's ponder the way being "prime" might actually matter and consider the likelihood it will matter in the series:
I'd rate each as having a 1% or lower chance of happening in the series (based on what little we know now).
- A visit from the future by someone from the TNG era.
- A visit to the future to Vulcan AFTER the date in which it was destroyed in the Kelvinverse.
- Specific interaction with Kirk on the Farragut.
- Specific interaction with Pike just before or after Talos IV incident.
In the end, the series could occur in either universe and it wouldn't matter in any substantial sense. The rest is just window dressing.
Except for the fact that Fuller stated that he wanted to use Prime elements and that's why he chose that universe. Soooooo, it will probably matter.
Mr Awe
...women will be able to be captain's, which directly contradicts "Turnabout Intruder".
You don't know what elements he's going to use. You're just guessing.
My guess is that, because he said he wanted to use Prime elements and chose the Prime timeline because of that, we'll see elements that are exclusive to Prime.
We'll all find out when it airs.
Mr Awe
I remember your comments specifically in that thread, Rahul. I even commented that you made a very cogent case!

Yeah, if you could go ahead and use the Multi-Quote feature, that'd be great. Thanks.Except for the fact that Fuller stated that he wanted to use Prime elements and that's why he chose that universe. Soooooo, it will probably matter.
