Amid multiple interpretations of quantum mechanics in effect all at once.Hell, if you want to get down to the strict canon of it all, there's probably 10 time lines that now exist within Star Trek.

1. According to Fuller's comments, there wasn't any real impetus for setting the show in the prime universe. They just wanted to avoid the new films because they didn't want to tread on their toes story-wise.

The continued juvenile "I told you so" posts from various posters here, as if making the right choice with a 50/50 chance is some impressive achievement, are pretty sad and pathetic, as are the continued calls for those who were incorrect to come here and beg forgiveness for their transgressions, as if thinking the Prime Universe might not come back is some massive failing on their part. Who the hell cares? Can't you just enjoy that you're getting what you wanted (and what I wanted) without trying to elevate yourself over other fans over such petty and insignificant bullshit?
So you admit to being petty in return? Okay, fine but then you have to accept criticism for your behaviour because "They did it first!" is not an excuse. The reason for some fans, like me, feeling rather vindicated, is because some other 'fans' treated people with anything but respect during discussions about where the new TV series would be set.
Anyone claiming it would be prime would be met with negative posts, being ridiculous, silly, out of touch with reality, silly Cumbernope pictures etc. THEY were the ones being petty and yes they now get something in return for their behaviour and I'm loving it.
As opposed to "turn the other cheek."You'll reap what you sow.
But the people who insisted it couldn't be prime weren't wrong depending on how you interpret "prime". Like M said, the vast majority of the people who wanted prime Trek wanted a continuation of the Berman era, setting it post Nemesis, dealing with Romulus destruction, possibly having guest appearances from TNG/DS9/VOY cast members etc.It doesn't really. But the attitude of some that it absolutely couldn't be prime and that other people who thought differently were met with rather negative feedback (to put it mildly) was and is unacceptable.
This is like me asking for salami and getting cheese with a salami sticker on it and then pretending that this is exactly what I wanted all along.Prime = prime. No matter how you spin it.
...and never really get into historical aspects that would annoy the canon Nazis.
That circles around to the question: if it has nothing to do with the actual universe, if it has no impact on the greater universe, then what does it matter if its set in the Prime timeline?
