What are your thoughts about seeing the prime universe again?

...They say it's in the prime timeline but it will look and feel so different that it might just as well take place in the new timeline or a third one...
Just like everything else in Star Trek ever.
Then many folks are wrong. There is a Prime Universe that consists of 10 movies, 5 TV series, one upcoming TV series (and one animated series). There is a Kelvin Universe that consists of 3 movies and there is a Mirror Universe that consists of a few episodes. Everything else is "head-canon" which is a synonym for personal preference.
Yep. Perfect.

Guess it's too much for people to read the thread...
I'm honestly not sure what you're referring to at this point. My only point was that the quote illustrates Fuller's intentions. I'm not sure why I'd have to read a different thread to determine that. No need to get defensive!

Mr Awe

I disagree that it is going to be in the Prime universe, in anything but name.

An honest question for you here based on your above quote. Why are you so bound to that postion before you even watch it? And, to the contrary, there's the quote from Fuller who said that they ultimately chose the Prime timeline *because* they thought it would cool to play in the timeline around TOS. That was the tipping point for them--the ability to use Prime elements. The little evidence we have suggests that there will be connections made to TOS of the Prime timeline.

If it turns out you are correct, I'd be fine with that as long as the stories are good. But, I don't quite see why you're fixated on that position before we even see the show. Why not just wait and see?

We don't have a whole lot to discuss. Why not discuss it in a thread that was obviously trolling to begin with?

But... just to be clear...

Discovery in a brand new reboot universe: BillJ pays $9.99 a month to watch it.
Discovery in the Abramsverse: BillJ pays $9.99 a month to watch it.
Discovery in the Prime universe: BillJ pays $9.99 a month to watch it.

Never once have I said I won't watch the show if its in the Prime universe (unlike some folks who stated plainly that they wouldn't watch a show set in the Abramsverse). People keep tossing out that anyone that doesn't think it will be in the Prime universe hates the Prime universe for some reason. Which is rubbish.

I tend to think they will be very fast and loose with continuity (to the point that it may as well be a reboot), much like they are going to be with the visual continuity. They can say it is Prime all they want, but the proof will be in the pudding.

I was asking you why you believed something. I guess you don't have an answer. That's fine. Just admit it's an opinion and move on.

I don't know the answer either. But, I'm not staking a position out on it. I'll just wait and see.

And, just to be clear, I was never suggesting that you wouldn't watch or like it if it was Prime. I was just wondering about why you had the opinion that you do about it only being Prime in name. No criticism was intended on my part.

How much?

It's like an advert for the WWE network in here. :)

I actually quoted Fuller upthread talking about changing the visual look (not tweaking) to match his vision of Star Trek (look, aliens, uniforms). If they are changing all that to match their vision, I doubt they'll allow story elements that no longer work to block them from what they want to do.

The first part of my response was just more a general statement. I take no offense in here. We're talking Star Trek, it's all good. Even when we disagree. :techman:

Hmm. That's interesting. I actually take the visual changes as being smaller in scale than the story elements. For me, the visual look is the window dressing while the story elements are the real meat of the series.

Taking several of Fuller's quote, you can get the sense that he'll change the look but did want to play specifically with Prime elements in the Prime timeline. But, again, none of us here know for sure. All guesses based on a few quotes.

Mr Awe

Although, I'm content to wait and see what we get for this one. I trust the team in charge.

I'm hoping they make compelling TV, because if they don't, none of this matters. The show won't make it very long.

The showrunners say otherwise. So, that issue is decided. Next!

Mr Awe

Nothing's decided until we actually see the show. Just like no political promises before elections are ever made or broken until after that politician's term is over.

So just like Enterprise then....which was still Prime timeline. ;)
