Star Trek does have a sense of humor. Its fans don't.
Commodores fly broad pennants, not flags.
Like Vulcans and emotions. They have them, but suppress them and don't discuss them in public.
ST Fans do have a sense of humor.
It's just that they get labelled all kinds of things by Tourists if they dare to laugh at something.
