What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

For me, I think one thing was Bakula/the show not having Archer's characterization down until arguably season 3. I remember watching the show during the first two seasons thinking Bakula was horribly miscast.

Archer in season 1 doesn't come off as all that likeable or much of a leader. He pouts a lot about the Vulcans.

Also, at a certain point I realized the writers/producers were more enamored with the general idea of the Temporal Cold War, the Suliban and Future Guy, than actually having a well thought-out story that knew where it was going with those elements.
Same here. I like Bakula a lot, and enjoyed him in other works but ENTERPRISE let him down.

I'd rather watch Burnham and Saru than Archer and T'Pol.

Disco season 1 is one of my favorite seasons of Star Trek. I can live with being an outlier. Picard season 1 was unfortunately as good as it was going to get, because it was about to get REALLY bad. Ent Season 1 is SHALE but it has a some good moments. Broken Bow is a fantastic series opener.

Well, ships are identified as "she". At least in the United States. "They wear a great deal of of paint, have a great many men around them, and give a mighty argument." As the old adage says
I think ships gendered as female is in at least all English-speaking countries.
"Very expensive to keep in paint and powder."

What I don't get is why the "15 years after Space Seed" statement in TWOK presents a problem for later films, and thus had to be retconned. I gather that Generations established the start of the five-year mission and the year Kirk disappeared. But why is TWOK's date a problem? There must have been an issue somewhere to move the timeline, but what is it?

I think they pushed most of the films to be set later to allow for TFF to have its Nimbus III been established by the big 3 powers and around for 20 years (after the initial big conflicts between the big 3 powers). Edit: While I would imagine an endeavor like that would start after, very soon after, but after the end of the original series.

There's something about the bridge design and specifically the captain's chair I find off-putting, in how it's kind of universal to every ship even if there are only like two other stations on a small ship. On a small ship I'd think the captain or whoever commands the ship would be working a console too.

Legit question because this is out of my experience: Are there "ales" with a whiskey like kick that the Romulan Ale clearly has?

That is still one of my favorite takes that Shatner ever did. He goes through surprise, a kind of "acceptance" of the challenge, and then a wonderful "Hey, that was a real nice try" smile to Bones. And none of it is mugging or over the top.

When he could control himself he was so good.
Perhaps you don't know. But beer and ale are made purposely weak. That's three to four percent by volume. Wine is double that. Spirits up to one hundred percent. It is all about controlling the fermentation process.

Yes, I love Season 1 of DSC. Season 1 of PIC started out well and then shit the bed, hard.

ENT Season 1 was okay. I agree Broken Bow was a great premiere.

More controversy: I loved Season 2 of DSC as well.
