What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Star Trek IV is fun to watch but you shouldn't think about it too much if any. I mean a couple of whales will not repopulate a species, no way!! The species will go extinct with serious genetic defects after a couple of generations due to direct inbreeding (brothers with sisters). Wich also would explain why we're so screwed up if the bible is to be believed that we came from one single couple...

Controversial Opinion:

If people judged Star Trek IV on a lot of the same criteria they've judged post-2005 Trek with....it would be the most hated film in fandom history.

But of course, they don't. Because that doesn't fit the narrative.

Well, I will not force my opinions about the Bible at this point upon you.

But I shall give you a ticket to ride.

Well ignoring the movie's talk of repopulating the species, the probe was happy just to hear from them. If they then immediately die out a generation after... they've done their job.

You forget that whoever launched the probe expects to hear from them on a regular basis, if these bulletins stop, you can expect a new visit sometime after...

By the 32nd century, they would have undergone three or four of these visits...

The novelization said something about establishing a breeding population and increasing the genetic diversity using preserved cell samples. Although the Federation has displayed enough control over genetics that they could probably take care of the defects on their own. Just watch out before introducing any Whale Augments.:evil::evil:

Well, if a whale is Ahab then who would be Mobidick? :D

Yeah, I figured the Federation had enough to understand the basics of the biology and history but not enough for their own genetic engineering to restore the population.

So, no dino-de-extinction using the blood cells inside the stomachs of mosquitoes stuck in amber since the cretaceous period; huh?

A Whale augment may have the same need for self-aggrandizing and constant need for revenge as Khan against those who wouldn't give it the proper respect "it deserved"...
Okay, I see. Well, the easy answer would be Kirk ... justified (barely) by Kirk being the author of the new whales' existence.

Although I've gotta tell you: A whale with an artificial fluke just isn't gonna cut it.

launched the probe

I always just assumed Earths planetary government (or the Federation) would just start...more or less...a cloning program of some kind to insure the species long term survival.

lol...meaningless comment.
