The Dax symbiote was hundreds of years old.
Ezri was a young woman.
I STILL don't know what the writers were thinking in making Ezri/Julian a thing as others have said, there was no chemistry, no bulid-up, no nothin. They just stumbled into a relationship.
Yeah, it esp gets interesting when add in other characters and their relationships to Jake & Ziyal, such as Jake telling Sisko abt who he wants to date, and Sisko realizing that means him and Dukat will have to be alot closer. Or watching Kira & Garak get extra protective of Ziyal in regards to human males.(And it definitely would've been preferable to Garak/Ziyal ugh)

I suspect the writers were looking for a way to wrap up each character's storyline for the series conclusion (e.g. O'Brien teaching at Starfleet Academy, Odo goes to the Great Link, etc.) and a relationship was the best idea they could could up with for those two.
It was the perfect "we know the audience doesn't really care about this romance" type of denouement. They agreed to "just be friends", then wound up sucking face in the turbolift. I think the writers wanted both Dax and Bashir to find some measure of happiness, and they were freed of the need to have a romance that the audience would enjoy watching play out: with the show ending and no movies planned, the characters were parting ways with us for good.
And again, Julian got dumped for a Ferengi. They needed to do something for him!

Yup. I love the awkwardness of Julian sorting out his feelings and still falling for Ezri. I love that stumbling in to a relationship.
Well I'm glad you enjoyed it. But it really didn't work for me(gave me 2nd hand embarrassment!), add that alot Ezri's development after the writers started the Ezri/Juilan relationship drifted mainly toward who she would date which was just boring and uninteresting to me.
I know usually ppl don't care for Ezri, But why do you dislike Julian? /gen
And that's fair. Most of Star Trek's impersonal relationships give me that 2nd hand embarrassment, largely because I hate how relationships are generally handled, with some exceptions. But, Julian was relatable enough to me and I liked Ezri a lot. So it just hit that surprise zone of being more engaging that Jadzi and Worf.
Hm, that's interesting since I largely hold the same view on both if these characters(tho in my case it was Ezri who very relatable to me) and yet their relationship was my least favorite part of S7 different strokes ig. And agreed I really hope in the future Trek writers wise up and write relationships better.

Actually, I enjoy ST:V.
I'd watch it on a constant loop rather than sit through TMP again.

For me it felt very much like a war time relationship. Two people who needed a connection and stumbled in to one despite a lot of stuff going wrong and being complicated in their lives. It felt more human to me.
I think the Archer character was sabotaged by Brannon Braga et al. He's started looking less like a jerk after they were gone. One more season or two he may have seemed normal. I don't know if it was deliberate or just incompetence, either way, the damage was serious and season 4 just wasn't enough to save him.
