What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

This is absurd. Hollywood isn’t going to hire because of ethnic origin anytime soon, and the greater question is why should they?

Because the world is beginning to expect more diverse representation. The folks who buy subscriptions and movie tickets expect the products they are supporting to reflect the world they live in.

Perhaps, but hollywood doesn’t see it that way. If you watch their product, you agree with their representation of the world.

Exactly. We have so much acting talent from around the world. We can use that to it's advantage.
Give plenty more actors a chance to make it big and to show their acting chops while respecting ethnic/national heritage.

Look at "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.". They tailor fitted Chloe Bennetts character of Skye/Daisy Johnson to fit her 1/2 White & 1/2 Chinese heritage. And they played to that reality. Hollywood could stand to do more accurate representation like that.

Edit 2: Whoops I already posted about this!

Edit 1: Wikipedia also reminded me, Shatner and Barbara Luna kissed in Mirror, Mirror, and that wasn't forced.

They do see it that way, which is why we’re beginning to move in the direction of more diversity.
We’re moving in that direction because progress, yet nothing is ever good enough for us, is it? Star Trek was a great progressive show, is that in dispute? Asking for a friend

We are moving in that direction because of money. Just like Roddenberry was told to diversify because advertisers wanted to sell products to everyone with money.

Yes, its reputation for diversity is overblown.

It didn’t have to be diverse, yet it was.

It didn’t have to be diverse, yet it was.
And as diverse as it was, we still haven't had a main character of German descent.
Or main character of Chinese descent
What about any main character of Latino heritage?
What about any main character from the Middle East?
What about any main character from the Baltic parts of Europe?
What about any main character from the Norwegian/Scandanavian parts?

The list can go on and on.

It can go on forever, yet it was diverse for its time.

Yoeman Zahra was a half breed, Uhura was a high ranking communications officer, Sulu was a high ranking helmsman, etc.

Yeah, it did. NBC told Roddenberry he needed a more diverse cast after “The Cage”, if he wanted to get on the air.
NBC also told Rod to get rid of Number One because she ranked too high, and the actress was his mistress. shame on them
