What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

So are you saying any Asian Actor should be able to portray any other Asian character?

If they have the skill, charisma and right appearance for the character. And want to play the part. Yes.
Because I don't reduce people to their genes or to who their ancestors were.

If I had a French Character, I'd prefer to find an actual Frenchmen.
But what if a French actor doesn't want to play your French character? What if they want to play Queen Victoria?

I would have dated her if she let me and if I was alive then.

Those long legs, hubba hubba!
Irrelevant.
She didn’t rank too high. NBC was agreeable to a female XO. Just not Roddenberry’s mistress. That is just more shit he fed fans in the 70’s.
Exactly. Recast Number One if that's what you want. Instead Roddenberry went on to make a funny story around it to deflect from the rather odd issue that keeping Barrett on.

agreed, i don’t argue against that, pls believe me

All they need do is hire someone who is competent in the role.

There are plenty of competent actors out there who can fit the roles. Especially actors from different backgrounds that can slot in to which ever ethnicity you want to portray in your cast. You just really need to be honest and look for them and give them a chance.

Just look at Agents of SHIELD.

They had a pretty diverse main cast represented.
Caucasian Male from the US 2x
Chinese Female
1/2 Caucasian & 1/2 Chinese female
British Female
Scottish Male
Mexican Female
Black Male
Mexican Male
British Male
American Female
etc.

“Inside Star Trek” by Herb Solow and Robert Justman is a great place to start. There’s also the Fact Trek website by @Harvey and @Maurice.
Shatner's Star Trek Memories and Nimoy's "I Am Spock" isn't bad either.
It’s relevant to me
Continues to be irrelevant to this thread. The fact is Roddenberry got told to redo the casting by the studio, and the studio was not happy with the personal relationship with the actress. Simple as that.

And I prefer casting a role that is accurate to the ethnicity that is written on paper.
Not just arbitrarily dump somebody into that role because they're close enough.

I wouldn't want an American to play a Brit, and I don't want Brit's playing Americans.

I'd prefer if everything matched as close to reality as possible.

The mods decide what’s irrelevant here. This is about controversial Trek opinions, how is it irrelevant to you?

Well then I'm very glad you're not a casting director. Forcing all those people to stay within imaginary "ethnicity" lines you have invented, reducing them to genes and family trees.
That's horrible. Do you wnat them to carry around identification cards so that the casting directors can verify their "authenticity"?

And again, what if they don't want to play the characters of their ethnicity? Why fence everybody in like that?
Where all Homo Sapiens.
