My controversial (?) opinion is that Discovery just isn't that good.
And yet I still want to see what happens, like slowing down for a bad wreck.
I thought you said you'd stop venting?
Yea, I still watch it. It's still Star Trek, which has been such a large part of my life for so long. I feel obligated lol. Maybe some obsession mixed in. But I don't look forward to new episodes like I do with Picard, Lower Decks, and Prodigy.
I don't really think that's the controversial opinion. My opinion is the controversial one. Or my last four years here would've been very different.
Eh it seems like people on the internet think that every opinion that doesn't meet with 120% approval is a "controversial" one.
Controversial opinion: If a show isn't good, don't watch it. It being part of a franchise I have enjoyed in the past doesn't change that fact. There are more positive and enjoyable ways to engage with a franchise that employing a drudgery style attitude of an upcoming episode.
I dislike a lot of shows. So I never talk about them here except in random jest and for humorous effect.
Not only that but there are a relative few but vocal people who really enjoy threadshitting in review threads and such.
Yeah, chances are if you hate a show we already know it so dial back the senior year thesis on why it sucks. It saves us scrolling and takes down points on all of our blood pressures.
It’s one thing to say “I didn’t like that” and even being passionate about it.
It’s the unrelenting negativity brought up in unrelated threads that as a moderator really drives you to drink.
Luckily for me it’s a short drive and I was headed that way anyway…

There are also degrees of liking and disliking, the nuance of which can get lost on the internet.
TNG and TOS are two of my favourite shows of all TV ever. I love them. I really really like DS9 and VOY.
So with Disco, yes it’s at the bottom of the Trek list for me, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it a fair amount of the time. It is true that in the context of other Trek I’m not very keen on it, but I try hard not to be a hater because if others love it that’s totally cool. I’m not hate watching, I’m watching truly hoping it continues to improve. It’s Star Trek, I want to love it.
I also hate the parts of the internet that hate on Disco in thinly layered sexism/racism/homophobia. One of my favourite parts of Disco is the diversity of the cast. I have many issues with the show, but I’d hate for anyone to think it’s because there isn’t a white man like me in charge.

There are giant swaths of Human Ethnicities that haven't been represented in Star Trek.
I was REALLY hoping that Michelle Yeoh would be our first Asian Female Star Trek Captain that lasts for the entire series.
Sadly, she was turned into a recurring Guest character.
I guess I'll have to wait for proper Asian representation in the Captain's seat.
There hasn't been any proper German representation in Star Trek to my knowledge within the Captain's seat or main cast.
I don't recall any Indian's (from India) being represented in the main cast.
There are whole/many parts of the world that don't get represented.

There are a few Star Trek shows I’d say it’s controversial to dislike (mostly TOS, TNG and DS9), but disliking Discovery?
Heard it, read it, seen it a thousand times on here. Disliking modern Star Trek is about as controversial as saying ‘I like Spock’.

Oh for sure. I wasn’t suggesting it was controversial. And @KamenRiderBlade - yes there is much of the world still to represent. ST has got worse at everyone having American Accents recently, dispute increasing diversity in other ways.
I far preferred Prime Georgiou to the hammy mirror one and would have loved her to be the captain for the whole show.

this pretty much sums up exactly where I’m at with Discovery.
Prime Georgiou as a lead would have been ok.
