What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

So, first it was “the only character who has changed is Stamets” and now it’s,”Well, I don’t like it, so I don’t acknowledge it…”

Gotcha.
It's a mostly terribly written show, so no wonder I'm ambivalent.

If you wanted to defend your opinion or have a discussion, you’ve not done much to inspire either. Just shitting on something isn’t helpful. It really just causes people to react negatively.

Anyway, since this is a thread for Controversial Opinions…I’ll get back on track:

The Starfleet arrowhead is best in its most basic form. The various re-stylizations it has undergone through the years have been inferior. The most recent version in DSC is the worst, as it is virtually unidentifiable. The Kelvinverse probably got it best, as it was least-altered from the original design.

I was just venting. I'll stop.

And Discovery has nothing on DS9. Hell, half the time Discovery doesn't even remind me of Star Trek
I remember the 1990's when people said DS9 was nothing like Star Trek.

And you know what? I totally get it. Star Trek was about Kirk and crew adventuring to weird planets every week, and has a VERY different vibe to DS9. But this does not make DS9 objectively bad.

I distinctly remember being excited when DS9 was announced.

The first time I ever questioned Star Trek's direction was when Enterprise was released. But I came around to it eventually. And then I was disappointed with Nemesis because it felt like a 21st century version of TWOK in places.

It took me twenty years to catch up on Enterprise, the 3 movies, and the post-ENT TV series. I've come around to some of this stuff, particularly Picard and Lower Decks, but can do without any more movies and, probably, Discovery. Haven't seen Prodigy. Maybe my issue is I'm not in my early 20s anymore? There is no nostalgia with this newer stuff, obviously. (Also, I really do feel the formula for the Berman era iterations work best; the longer seasons, etc.)

Do I hate Discovery? No. I just wish many things were different. It feels like an alternate timeline version of Trek, like the 3 Abrams movies.

Simple arrowhead is good. Kelvin I like but it’s not a comm badge so don’t like that it’s a metal pin. Seems unnecessary even dangerous to have useless sharp edged bit of metal on your chest.

so I’ll go with Lower Decks. Basically the same thing but a comm badge. I also love the TOS ones a lot.

having said that I like the more complex All Good Things future badge a lot, always have. Picard takes it too far and the black on black uniform doesn’t work for me. New Disco ones look Bajoran until you look closely.

but I’m a sucker for all Starfleet badges and emblems.

Yup. And TNG was not Trek.

I get that people have their opinions, and older stuff gets accepted much more readily than the new stuff. I just also like the new stuff. Not because "nostalgia" but because enjoyment.

The Burn was a good story idea. Its metaphor...climate change. Fossil fuels, and geopolitical squabble. Cusp of interstellar civilization depends on one key resource.
But it wasn’t caused by overconsumption or stupidity. A dude had a huge grief episode and magically wrecked all the dilithium.

I experienced that last year when I saw the first 2 seasons of DIS. Still doubting whether I think it really fits into the Star Trek mold as such, but I enjoyed it as a series in its own right, at the very least.

that’s how I feel. I struggle with the idea that it’s meant to be the same universe as previous trek. It’s a reboot really. Which is fine with me, I’d rather they just commit to it being such.
