What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Do they?

here's at least one: https://redshirtsalwaysdie.com/2023...pisode-code-honor-pulled-streaming-hes-right/

But almost everyone I've seen also agrees it's just a bad episode regardless of the casting. They're not arguing that it's a good episode ruined by casting, they're arguing it's a bad episode that could've at least been spared the racist connotations by having different casting. That it didn't have to be as terrible as it is. That it could've been just a bad episode instead of being an infamous episode.
i never said anyone was arguing that is was a good episode tarnished by this one thing, nor was i arguing that it was. this paragraph is literally what i was saying? what i was relaying?

And I have to agree with Richard that I've never once seen anyone demand it be removed from rotation anywhere.
idk what to tell you, almost every time i've seen the episode come up elsewhere someone is either suggesting it or pointing out someone else that suggested it or some report that they did, often a cast member. of course things being the way they are, sometimes you go to read the report and it isn't actually what they said, but the article will indicate support anyway...

I don’t understand why Lower Decks ended after 5(?) Seasons. It was a cartoon. And a good one.

Was it just a case of “always leave them wanting more”?

What happened?
It was too good and was making the other series look bad by comparison.

Not the other Star Trek series, just other TV series in general.

If I had to make a real guess, I'd say that the numbers weren't on its side, but which numbers I don't know.

possibly just they can't be lower deckers forever, possibly "lets get out of this while we're still a good show"

An army of one link, plus a few anecdotes.

Okay then. Moving on.

because it would be totally normal to keep collections of links to every conversation i have ever had or seen online, organized meticulously by subject matter, in case someone in a future interaction doesn't believe me and demands that i prove i've seen something i've seen on multiple occasions and is going to be dismissive about it anyway.

Five years is now the cutoff for Trek shows. That's what everyone means when they say "five is the new seven."
"five is the new seven" sounds like either a borg or another mid-show revitalization character. who may also be a borg. or a robot from the 80s.

There was actually a political board I used to be on with people like that.
"Really? Because in a post you made on Dec 5, 2018, you said [ quoted post ]"
"Aren't you the guy who once said...?"
That crap finally drove me away.

Buddy, I'm on the spectrum in at least one way, possibly several.....
Do I have news for you.....

Many people are. Some feel that gives them carte blanche to be an insufferable asshat to literally everyone around them.

When they get called out, they shrivel up in the corner and screech, "You can't say that to me, I'm on the spectrum!"

Then, here's a thought: Perhaps they shouldn't have opened their fucking mouth in the first place?

I can't even begin to count how often I started typing something because of how my brain works, looked at, felt better about getting it of my chest for me, and never posted it. I may be on the spectrum but it doesn't give me a free pass to say whatever the fuck I want.

as am i, though unfortunately not in a way that helps me focus on organizing like that

I am still learning. I actually have been able to keep my kitchen clean and in order simply by using the phrase 'Don't put it down, put it away' every time I'm there. I hope meds can help with the ADHD part, mental discipline will have to work on my autism part.

Would that more folks had that kind of self-awareness. Thank you. Seriously...

I would like to point out, being on the spectrum comes in a lot ways. And for some, learning self control either through medication or structure, is possible. For others, it never will be.

And than there are people who abuse being on the spectrum to justify just saying whatever they want.

It needs to be very clear that sometimes it's up to the individual, and sometimes it simply is not.

I remember Tim Russ answered something like this when VOY first premiered & some folks were questioning a black Vulcan. He simply responded that Vulcan was a very hot planet and it wasn't the unlikeliest thing in the world for there to be darker-skinned Vulcans.

I was not in favor at first. We'd never seen a dark skinned Vulcan before. In my head Klingons were dark and swarthy while Vulcans were more sallow completed.

Then I watched Voyager and Tuvok became my favorite Vulcan (or second favorite)

seems to be the main one, most people who have a problem with it, at least that i have seen on these boards, seem to think it would have been mostly fine if not for the casting

i mean, people want it banned or taken out of streaming and syndication rotations because the casting combined with the story has Unfortunate Implications,

No. As others have pointed out, it's the stereotypical appearance - casting an all black cast and dressing them in stereotypical African attire.

The story is not stellar, but also not the problem. Read the story without any visuals and it doesn't offend. Cast an all black cast without the stereotypical African native cues and it doesn't offend.

It was the entire package that offends.

The original idea was tge natives were a race of lizards. That would have been fine. Make the cast multi-cultural and that would be fine. Keep the cast black but use Gothic or Asian or Arctic or Pirate styles of wardrobe and architecture and that would be fine.

Ooohhhh is pirate!
