What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

The Borg joined forces with Janeway in order to defeat Species 8472.
And then stabbed Voyager's crew in the back.

CHAKOTAY: There's a story I heard as a child, a parable, and I never forgot it. A scorpion was walking along the bank of a river, wondering how to get to the other side. Suddenly he saw a fox. He asked the fox to take him on his back across the river. The fox said no. If I do that you'll sting me, and I'll drown. The scorpion assured him. If I did that, we'd both drown. So the fox thought about it and finally agreed. So the scorpion climbed up on his back, and the fox began to swim. But halfway across the river, the scorpion stung him. As the poison filled his veins, the fox turned to the scorpion and said why did you do that? Now you'll drown too. I couldn't help it, said the scorpion. It's my nature.

Genuine question. I wouldn’t know because I wasn’t there… but did TAS continue Trekmania? I always got the impression that it aired but was largely forgotten or disregarded?
I'd say TAS was not well regarded by most older fans, those who had seen TOS first run, and become a fan then.

However, I was in precisely the right age bracket for TAS: born in 1966, too young to have seen TOS first run, but old enough to have fallen in love with TOS in syndication, in the early 1970s, prior to TAS, and in the thick of watching Saturday morning cartoons and other shows when TAS debuted. So, I fell in love with TAS too. I recognized its limitations, but enjoyed the stories, and I still recognize that more than a few TAS stories still surpass the stories of most live action Trek in all forms.

There are also a few stand-out episodes that rank with the best of the best Trek, one of which is "Yesteryear," which is probably the most widely acknowledged best TAS episode and the most widely accepted one among those critical of TAS. I consider "One of Our Planets Is Missing" to be another.

So to get back to your question, for me, TAS absolutely continued Trek mania. I consumed its merchandise, such as the Star Trek Log books, and the Concordance (1976), in which TAS figured heavily.

I loved TAS. It was the first Trek I watched back in ‘74, before I ever realized a live-action version existed years before. I will always have a place in my heart and mind for TAS. It has been and always will be a part of the canon, despite what Gene’s Vision™ thought, and I’m glad that CBS/Paramount agree.

DS9 is too much like a soap opera

First reaction: that’s utter nonsense!

Then I recall threads like Kira carrying the O’Briens’ baby, moving in with them only for her and Miles to develop the hots for each other.

But, nah, for all its faults, DS9 was by far the most human of the Trek series with an enormous cast of multi-dimensional, compelling, rich characters.
