Just finally sat down for the season 2 premier of The Pitt, a show getting well deserved praise for its realism, IMHO. While I think it's been giving an excellent portrayal, this season opens with a rather huge bone to pick for me, which doesn't really represent any spoilers, because all its promo footage & photos include it as a feature. It probably won't even factor into the breadth of the season much, under the circumstances.
It's lead character opens the show, driving to the hospital, on a motorcycle, jetting thru the Pittsburgh streets...
without a helmet on. Oh, he HAS one with him. He just isn't wearing it, for some asinine reason. As someone who has
carefully ridden motorcycles for 35 years, (knowing the risks) has worked with doctors 25 years (some in an ER) and personally had an uncle who lived out his last year in a home, never mentally recovering from an unhelmeted motorcycle accident brain injury, withering away more every day, I'll just say this.
I've never known or even heard of a doctor who even rides motorcycles, but
NO doctor, in their right mind, (least of all an ER chief attending, who's likely treated hundreds+ motorcyclists) would
EVER ride a motorcycle without a helmet on. Hell, in the same episode, another doc tells a bicyclist patient THEY should always wear one (they should)
I don't know wtf is going on here, or HTF they're maybe planning to write this into the show (tragically I'd imagine) but even if they plan to depict it horribly realistically, it's still dumb. No ER chief doc would need to learn this lesson the hard way, unless he's out of his damn mind. What, dude... You're gonna hack a 15 hour shift & then speed home exhausted, in city traffic, completely unprotected? Lunacy!
I'm left to assume it's meant to highlight the fact that, to my surprise, (& I had to look this up) somehow Pittsburgh doesn't have universal helmet laws, (a law I'm actually personally against, even though I advocate always wearing them. It's solely the governmental authority to mandate it I'm against)
So, if this is all some poorly concocted stunt to grandstand for promoting helmet laws, I'm going to be really disappointed in this show, for how badly it's being presented... But it's early, and I'm still clueless about where that's going. It's just not sitting well with me, right now. I mean if Dr. Robby is doing this because he's suicidal or something, there's way more reliable ways to end yourself than f*cking up your brain an indiscriminate amount
Sorry for the rant here (I didn't see a Pitt thread) but this really chapped my ass lol
