What are you watching???

I'm about to start Season 1 of Seaquest DSV to see how it holds up. I primarily watched Season 3 because I wanted to see how they handled the Commander Ford/Lonnie Henderson romance; it was cute but ended very weak.

I'm also watching episodes of Jason of Star Command on Hulu. I remember watching the show when I was little, but I don't remember the exact episodes. It was one year after Star Wars made it's debut, so I'm sure there was some inspiration. I get more of a Star Trek/Buck Rogers vibe from the show....with a hint of Star Wars, especially with the toy robot - WIKI - that was used for the show.

It's definitely cheesy and hammy at times (i.e. the classic Buck Rogers part of the show) but fun...especially with Sid Haig as the villain Dragos. James Doohan is also present as a lead officer.

Since it's a Filmation show, I noticed that they used a few elements that show up in other Filmation shows: The environmental belts that are used in Star Trek: The Animated Series, 'that incidental music' that I remember hearing in Star Trek: TAS and Mighty Mouse: The Great Space Chase (if you're familiar with Filmation shows, you'll know the music I'm talking about), and certain voice actors that turn up (e.g. a voice for one of Dragos' minions is also the voice of a Harry the Heartless' minion in the Mighty Mouse film).

I'm also watching episodes of Space Academy here and there.

In regards to more contemporary shows: The Americans ended on a low-key finale, and House of Lies ended on a 'cute' finale - I may buy it, the show, on DVD someday.

Catching up with The Last Ship season two at the moment. Later, we have the season finale of Legends of Tomorrow.

Season 2, Jason of Star Command (Apparently, James Doohan didn't want to come back or he was focusing on the new Star Trek film franchise, at the time). I have a tolerance since the show has a short running time and Sid Haig is hilarious....and Tamara Dobson is now on the show (and looks good in her futuristic outfit) and Susan O'Hanlon looks good in HER futuristic outfit.

I also watched the pilot and 2nd episode of SeaQuest. While the pilot was interesting, the 2nd episode was pretty melodramatic, boring. Also, I noticed that Commander Ford is, like, the only non-white individual in the cast. Even in the background there are like one or two black males I saw -- blink and you'll miss them -- although there was also a non-speaking bridge crewmember who was black and male in the pilot who gives a look to Capt. Bridger when he's looking over his, the crewmember's, shoulder. I would see one Asian female in the background; blink and you'll miss her as well.

Also, there is no explanation why 'humankind' decided to suddenly forego space exploration for ocean exploration. It's like having a moon - Earth's moon, actually - travel around space (in lieu of an actual starship) without explaining how the moon will affect the Earth when it gets out of orbit. Not too mention, explaining how the moon can propel itself through space. (Actually, you CAN explain it - Moon stuff - away as aliens....but I'll tuck that away for my fanfic or spec script for a Space:1999 feature I may or may not do someday). Still can't explain SeaQuest, though.

I wanted to continue watching it because Mark Hamill shows up in an episode and 'that actress' (Kevin Sorbo's wife, who actually wasn't Mrs. Sorbo at the time, I think) shows up in another.

The sea is closer.

It takes 40 trillion dollars to send 7 people to Mars.

Any idiot can jump in the ocean for a paddle.

...

Help!

The Beatles are SOOOOO Young!

The first season of ''The Good Life''. Just got the complete collection delivered today, it was made in the 70s. Nice and light comedy.

After watching the Euro matches for today I'll probably start season two of Good Life and finish that off tomorrow.
