The Oscars.

Wow...instead of being boring and classy, they went for boring and tacky. Too bad. It started OK with some good jokes but pretty much went to hell after that.

Seriously. Chris Rock made fun of Jada Pinkett's alopecia, so Will Smith walked on stage and smacked him in the face.

*sigh*

But understandable. Jada was trying to hold back tears. Will reacted as a good husband, though it probably wasn’t the best idea. Now Chris has to make a new educational video: “How Not to Get Slapped by Will Smith.”

That was not a man defending his wife. That was a man emotionally compromised. Good husbands don't make the situation worse.

I only read about it this morning to find out who won what.

Watched the scene and well - we all have been insulted at one point or another when someone made fun us ( even if the joke came from a close friend and wasn't intended to be mean spirited). Some jokes can hit too close to home and can catch you on a bad day or it's a misunderstanding and people can snap.

Well, it's unfortunate that Smith snapped in front of the entire world, one can argue if the joke was in poor taste ( that's the risk with many jokes) or if Smith was right or not to react like he did.
I don't believe Smith is a bad or even violent person but it happened, he should at least apologize to Rock for the physical assault - that was over the line in any case. If Rock apologizes for the joke is up to him, maybe they did but i haven't watched the whole thing or the ceremony to see who did what and when.

Another thing that bugged me about the Oscars was a joke early on. One of the hosts caller up a few of the actors Bradley Cooper, Jason Momoa, Simu Liu, and someone else, and then looked them up and down, and joked about taking them backstage for a "full Covid exam."

That wouldn't be acceptable if it was a man ogling women, so it should be equally unacceptable for a woman to ogle the actors that way. A minor misstep, but just an example of a general lack of oversight.

If that was even legit, or not, it's the only reason anyone is talking about that stupid ass show anymore.

There's some talented actors out there, but these shows have lost all sense of refinement or class. Compare a modern excuse for a celebrity roast to one of the old Dean Martin roasts and you'll see the difference.

So let me see if I have my facts straight:

1. Chris Rock makes a joke about a crappy movie that Jada Pinkett starred in, because Chris Rock is a comedian who makes jokes.

2. This offended Jada Pinkett, which caused Will Smith to get up, walk over, punch Chris Rock in the face, sit back down, and shout multiple F-Bombs about Rock making fun of his wife, all on national television where entire families with kids could potentially be watching the show.

3. Smith then wins the award that Rock was preparing for him, and insincerely apologizes to the ‘academy’ (but not to Rock) all teary-eyed, while the rest of the audience (or at least the few people whose reactions they showed, like Serena Williams) cries with him and acts like he’s some kind of hero for just punching out another man who made a joke.

Now, if I have my facts straight:

Fuck Will Smith, and fuck his wife too. And fuck everyone at that stupid event who believes Will Smith is a hero.
