What are the 90's known for? What will the 2000's be known for?

1990 -1993 still felt like the late 80s to me, 1994-1996 felt like the 90s, 1997-1999 felt like the 2000's...

yeah I know that probably doesnt make any sense...

It makes perfect sense to me. I especially found that in the music sense: the early 90s were the 80s hangover of pop, techno and Madchester pop with a small peak in ragga, with guitar music as Grunge start a loyal following; the middle 90s saw guitar bands dominate as Britpop and alternative rock, with modern house lurk in the background; the late 90s saw the return of pop, RnB, and hip hop begin to dominate over guitar music and "BritPop", while dance music grew up as modern house, big beat and trance. At least that's how it was for me.

The 2000s were a similar three-phase phenomenon: the early 2000s were a hangover from the late 90s, with hip hop and RnB collaborations taking hold and dominating the charts and the music waves throughout, however by the early-mid 2000s, guitar music tried to fight back (and in my opinion failed to conquer this time). The latter years seem to be highly influenced by electronic sounds and the sounds of the 80s.

But the 2000s were clearly the time of Zion Ravescene. Everyone knows that. [We certainly do. :bolian: - everyone]

00s: iPods. George W. Bush. Xbox. Long, shaggy hair. Facebook. Prequels and remakes in popular media franchaises.

That would be my answer as well. Plus this:

00s: Mostly for what ended on TV, 9/11, the Bush Wars, A super power in denial of ending, and the election of Obama.

I think we're unofficially in the '10s now. 2008 will probably seen as the last real '00s-feeling year and the problems we have right now won't magically disappear overnight.

We're in transition. I wouldn't say we're in the 2010s yet. We've still got elements of the 00s happening, though those elements are disappearing.

Did anybody else read this and think of that scene in the Jerk where Steve Martin is explaining to Bernadette Peters how even though they have only known each other for 4 weeks and 3 days it seems like 9 weeks and 5 days?

Personally, I think the 90s will become known as the era of the perfection of excess, consumptive and otherwise, paired with extremely rapid technological advancement.

The 90's where also known for the Boy Bands and Girl Groups...
This decade, pop wise, it was more solo young singers starting with Britney and Christina and now we have Duffy and Sara Bareilles...
Alternative rock was also strong this decade, with bands like Hoobastank and Coldplay...

If the 2000's end up being known for Coldplay then I'm just going to pretend they didn't happen.
