What are some good tower defense games?

I was at my friends house yesterday and he got me into PixelJunk Monsters on PS3. I don't have a PS3, so unfortunately I can't play the game unless I'm over at his place. While I did find a Facebook version of said game, it's a scaled back version and well...just isn't quite the same.

I do have a 360, so I was wondering what some good tower defense games were that were available on Live, and also if there are any good ones available on PC.

Apparently Desktop Defenders is supposed to be fantastic. It's for Xbox Live and Steam.

Also, Lock's Quest and Ninja Town for the DS are pretty good Tower Defense games if you want something a little more portable.

My friend who got me into Monsters has just told me about Kingdom Rush, I played it for a while and I am really addicted to it.

Not a fan of PixelJunk Monsters

Defense Grid is good. Available on Steam and also XBLA.

Plants vs Zombies, same thing, PC and Xbox, and of course iOS and Android and the like. More casual, but I still had a lot of fun with the PC version.

In the realm of hybrid type games, I've heard the same great things about Trenched, but haven't tried it. I really enjoyed the Toy Soldiers series which is an XBLA exclusive.

There's also South Park: Let's Go Tower Defense Play on XBLA. Gameplay seemed closest to PixelJunk in the way you run around to set up towers, collect coins, etc... it didn't really grab me either, but if PixelJunk is the style you're going for, it's probably worth checking out the demo.

There's a game on the PC/Steam called Sanctum. It's played first person though. So you move around the map in first person and place blocks and weapons, then activate the creeps. (You can switch to a top down view at any time.) The main difference is that you need to also upgrade your personal weapons and shoot the creeps yourself. So it ends up being a balance between pathing, tower placement, and upgrading your personal weapons. The TD part of the game is very similar to Defense Grid. I quite enjoyed it.

There are also tons of Flash based TD games, kingdom rush probably being the best of the bunch.

Coincidentally Toy Soldiers released today on PC, and has gotten a permanent price cut to 10 bucks, there's also new DLC for the Toy Soldiers: Cold War sequel (which as far as I know is still Xbox only). I actually preferred the original, I think it had a stronger challenge with more replay value, but I'll be sure to check out the DLC. I really do love this franchise.

Trenched is s'posed to be amazing. For an XBLA game, try Crystal Defenders. Crude graphics, lots of replay value. And the Toy Soldier games are a lot of fun as mentioned...

I checked out some videos of that one on youtube. It looks like something I'll check out. Just curious, but have you played Kingdom Rush? So far it's one of the funnest free games I've had the chance to play, Tower Defense or otherwise.

I loaded it up after you had mentioned it, but only played one level. Not long enough to see if it builds up into an interesting challenge. I have so many games I still need to play that I actually paid for, it's hard for me to pick up a free game :)

Heh, right. Dungeon Defenders. That's what I meant.

Where the hell did Desktop Defenders come from? Is that even a game?

I'll second Defense Grid. Good story and voice acting. Lots of mission pack dlc.

Oh, and Plants vs Zombies. Its crack for gamers.
