What about Scotty...

Is it just my imagine or was Pickard trying to get rid of Scotty. In "Relics"
after the Enterpise find this wandering Dyson Sphere, and then finds the Jenolen on it they find Scotty in the pattern buffer...you know the story.
In the final scene after Scotty pretty much rescues the Enterprise by himself, with a little help from Geordie. It seem to me that Pickard rushed him off the Enterprise a little fast, what,s the big rush. And in the final scene, in the docking bay the senior staff says it's goodbyes to one of the originals, Worf a fellow Star-Fleet Officer totally disrepects him, and just growels at him when Scotty just wanted to shake hands, is there some history between Worf and Scotty that I am not aware of??

I thought it was a little quick also. Since everyone was already gathered there I wonder what Picard told the senior staff, " Please gather in the cargo bay so we can get rid of him".

Scotty is old school and had no love of Klingons, Worf could probably sense that.

I agree they did kick him off pretty quickly. But Scotty did seem pretty excited to get the ship so I think he was happy with the gift and the chance to explore again with his own ship.

Also, the plotline didn't really require or indicate a hasty ending, in the sense that the Enterprise probably loitered in the area for a day or two, perhaps for several weeks, while waiting for those science ships (since that was the scientific discovery of the century, either century). Plenty of time for the main characters to learn to know Scotty, and vice versa.

OTOH, the final scene probably took place somewhere far away from the Dyson sphere already, or else Scotty would have been pretty lost with that tiny shuttlecraft... The travel time to that location would provide still more time for a farewell party.

I didn't think too much of the Scotty/Worf scene. If I remember correctly (which I might not, who knows) Scotty was the one who ignored Worf. Which didn't surprise me really, cause in Scotty's time the Klingons and the Federation was still not on the best of terms, yah it was improving.

I imagine it was like your dad showing up to work and just getting in the way... despite the audience nostalgia, that would have been an annoyance to have around - especially for Geordie.

The ep title, "Relics", says it all. Scotty was just a useless relic from the past. They pretty much let him loose in the wilds so to speak. It was either that or stick him in a zoo back on Earth where the evolved 24th century humans can gawk at a primitive life form.

He is still my fav...........nobody is like Scotty:beer:

I have a lot of Doohan autographs - on everything from pics to cards to books to a baseball. I even have a huge dilithium crystal prop from his son that I know and also the walking stick he used at the TVLand awards......bunch of things.....

He is the original UNDYING REDSHIRT:)

A nice follow up to Relics (and Unification) is the novel ST:TNG:Crossover. I have the audio novel as read by Frakes and he does a great job. In a nut shell, a group of unificationists is captured by the Romulans, although the Rommies don't know that Spock is among them. However, the Federation knows so they send Picard and the Enterprise to resolve the matter diplomatically. Starfleet sends Adm. McCoy along as a mission expert. It seems Scotty has programmed his shuttle's subspace receiver to intercept all messages about topics he has deemed interesting. So, he gets the message sent to Picard and decides to try to rescue his old Vulcan friend on his own. Knowing the shuttle won't be enough, he "borrows" an old starship from a museum and heads out on his own mission. It's a great story that includes 24th century Spock, McCoy, and Scotty interacting with the crew of the E-D.
