What about Q?

Q is my favorite re-occurring character of TNG and VOY. he was the one saving grace of Encounter at Farpoint, quite frankly. But not all Q episodes are good. I didn't like Qpid or Q and the Gray. I like the idea that he is introduced as a villain sent by the Q continuum, and by All good things, it is clear he really is trying to help humanity all along...sort of giving hints to Picard, without giving him the answer, in order to save humanity from the rest of the Q continuum.

Most probably disagree, but I've always thought that Q would have been best left as a one- or two-episode character. I thought his appearances got more and more convoluted over time, and he became a crutch for the writers ("No ideas? Hey, let's do a Q episode! Fans love that!")

Same deal with the holodeck. IMO there was one good holodeck episode (Elementary, My Dear Data) and then countless others that followed became the "obligatory semi-annual holodeck-gone-wrong episode."

I can see where your coming from regarding Q especially in Voyager but in TNG I loved the episodes he was in - not keen on the DS9 episode either.

As for the holodeck episodes they were a bit hit and miss for me.

I wish they'd have done more with Guinan and Q. Some of the best scenes of those two characters were when they were on-screen together, and I wish they'd have gone into the background of their relationship.
