What about Guinan?

So I've been wondering, much has been established about Guinan canonically speaking. We do know that the El-Aurian race is long-lived, and therefore she has been alive in the 23rd century. And since Abrams and his cohorts are saying they'd like to provide various links to the other Trek series, this could be a perfect link to TNG. Have a scene where Kirk and Spock enter an alien night club in search of Nero. While they're looking around, they pass by Guinan. You know what would make this scene even better? Have Guinan eating avocados. The potential is awe-inspiringly awesome.

Discuss.

It would probably make more sense to mention her in passing, rather than something really overt.

I'm new here,so I do not think this has been covered....but why not?

No, no, and no! No stupid crossovers in this movie please. Spock I can understand, because he is in relation with the 23rd Century. But if they have any other characters from the 24th Century in this movie, I will further boycott any other Trek movies.

You forget. Guinan has been shown to be of the 23rd century. Also of the....umm....the 19th, was it?

Guinan is a trekkian constant. She's like warp drive. Always has been there, always will be. And like the exact mechanics of warp drive...

We don't have to see her. :D

Just out of curiosity, I did a search and found that, excluding the posts in this thread, Guinan's name has come up in this forum about 60 times in the last year or so. Granted, most of them are no more than passing mentions, but you'd expect to find that for most topics. I think that while it's generally agreed that there's no real reason Guinan couldn't be in the movie, the question remains whether the story they're going to tell really requires her presence.

Sure, we could have Guinan and Emony Dax and Finnegan and Gary Mitchell (and all kinds of eastablished characters who were known to exist during X, Y or Z time-frame) in the movie but, if they're only there because they can be there, then we're looking at a potential runtime for the film which could put The Lord of the Rings trilogy (Extended Editions, natch ;) ) to shame.

So I've been wondering...

It would be cool to see Guinan sitting in the background in some bar while Scotty gets totally drunk and passes out. She just shakes her head and smiles.

No, because there was never any mention of her prior to Generations. At first when I saw this movie for the first time I didn't understand why she was even in the 23rd century then. I just don't understand why we can't have one movie based on the original characters-- and no crossovers. That's what all four TNG movies had and we did fine with no crossovers in TOS!

Considering that the first four TOS films predated TNG, it's hard to see how they could have a crossover. And then of course, there's Kirk and McCoy's defense attorney in Undiscovered Country, a certain Colonel Worf... ;)

Kirk and Spock enter an alien night club in search of Nero. While they're looking around, they pass by Guinan.

Or... OR... never show her on-screen, but have most of the characters in the movie just casually mention her all throughout it:

"So, I was talking to Guinan, and she said..."

"Where's Guinan?" "Oh, you just missed her."

"Have you seen Guinan's new hat?"

"I will kill you, Kirk, for what Guinan just said to me!"

It'd be a love-valentine to the long-time fans and a perplexing, unsolved mystery to new viewers. JJ could set up sites like guinan.com with cryptic clues like "prune juice" and static-y pictures of eyebrowless eyes.
