I think the point is that the situation, was at best, a misunderstanding and at worst she's a dumb bitch. If the former is true, then he should just move on realizing that people miscommunicate at times and that it doesn't reflect anything about him, even though feelings were hurt. If the latter is true, it still doesn't mean anything is wrong with him - it just means he got a little too interested in the wrong girl. Either way, feelings are hurt, yes, but that doesn't mean it was a personal attack.
