Hi guys!

Hope you had a nice birthday, Computer Voice!!!

And Kev, coaster just picked up Spiderman 2 the other night...so that one is prolly not a bad idea!

As for me, over this past weekend I FINALLY got around to watching The X-Files: Fight the Future. It was pretty good, but I don't see how it made it in the theatres. I loved it...but you really need to be an X-Files fan to fully appreciate it as it deals with the conspiracy storyline...

Anyway...I liked the film, and watched episode 1 of season 6 as well....so now I can get back on track with that show!

Hey all, long time no chat.

I don't know if anyone remembers me, but back before august I would post here all the time. Than in august I came on here and said that I was leaving because I really didn't feel like posting here anymore, and i just lost interest in the board.

However, even though I didn't post, I still came in from time to time to lurk and see what was up and what changes there were. On another board, Digifan (I think she/he had the other handle of Admiralelectron; I hope I'm speaking of the same guy) said that trekbbs got a major overhaul, even to the point were Lisa was leaving. Through this time, I was wondering if I should give this board another chance and find out what those changes are. There is no doubt that the threads here are much enlightening and the forums are much more active than any other board. Maybe I came back because I was bored, or maybe it was because dispite me feeling like an outsider here, there are some great posters and reading most posts make my day sometimes. Yeah there are the spammers and people who can be really harsh on another poster or even another series, and the moderatorship can be harsh at times, but overall, the community here is pretty good, and I'd like to be part of it again.

I don't know how much I'll post here, but I just wanted to say that after thinking about it for the last several months, I'm willing to give this board another chance. In that case, what up ya'lls.

Love the new emoticons by the way, but what else has changed.

^ hey tomalak301! :)

I definately remember you, and I'm sure a lot of other people around here do.
What has changed around here lately? IMO not all that much, not that that's a bad thing. We've got new avatar sizes (100x100 now, before it was 80x80), there's now two Admiral lounges. We also got spoiler code: <span class="spoiler"><font class="small">Spoiler:</font><hr /><span> See what I mean? </span><hr /></span>
The board also moved to a new server a while ago, so it's faster now.

But the core of the board is quite the same, at least IMO. There's still a lot of great people around here and talking to them is always fun. :)

But yeah, welcome back! :)

Hey Bigfoot. Good to see you again. I noticed we even got a new forum. I remember when the suggestion of a new forum would have been shot down really quickly. What did you guys do to change the admins minds. Bribe them. ;)

Is the code link for the spoiler than?

I honestly have no idea how the whole thing came about. I don't usually pay much attention to the QS&F section of the board. :)

Yep yep, it comes quite handy sometimes. It's definately a lot better then a ton of spoiler space above and below spoilers. One, it takes up less space, and two, it's still more 'safe'. :)

<--- *has made a new av*

I'm currently emerging myself in the wonders of that what is DS9 again, and I'm just randomly skipping through season 7.

Welcome back tomalak301... what else has changed? Vash is now a yellow person. :p

Hey Steve,

Great news. Vash, you deserved it, Congratulations.

Thanks, tomalak301! I appreciate it! And it's good to see you back! You were greatly missed around here!

Actually, there have been alot of changes here at the board. The new forum is one...the split of the Admiral's Lounge is another...alot of mods moved around, some new mods, Bonz has let a few banned folks back to see how they do...and she has made some new Admins, of which I am one.

I think you should give Bonz a chance...and give us a chance by coming back to post.

Bonz is really trying to make some good changes for the board...and she is working really hard to make sure this board gets back on track after not having any real leader for so long. ;)

Anyway...it's great to see you, and I hope to see you more often around here! :)

I'm really impressed with the changes Bonz has made to the board since her promotion. A lot of them are little, but they're really nice changes. The new "graemlins", the spoiler code, the General TV & Media forum, etc.

And somehow, a lot of my friends seem to be moderators (Or Admins! ;) ) now, so that's good for me.

Hey...did you see my post above? I finally watched Fight the Future and commented on it a few posts back! ;)

Yowza! Where are my priorties??

Okay, was it just me or... Was the scene toward the end where Mulder sees the giant UFO fly off into the distance surprisingly touching? I find that watched directly after the fifth season, in which one of the ongoing storylines was Mulder's disbelief in life on other planets. He believed it was all just a government conspiracy. Over the course of the season, he slowly begins to believe again... But that scene in Fight the Future was like a rebirth for the character.

Unfortunately, you really only get this little tidbit of character nuance if you had watched the series up until that point.

My biggest gripe with Fight the Future is just how poorly it stands on its own. I've tried watching it on its own and while it's okay... I bet any X-Files fan could bat off a good 10 or 20 episodes which are better representions of the appeal behind the franchise.

It's always been my wish that they'd gone out of their way to make the film standalone. Act like the majority of viewers don't know these characters and their lives. If that means no aliens and government conspiracy, then so be it. The movie should've been the shining beacon, the best example of what The X-Files is. But instead, we get a decent bridge between two seasons that could've just been a tv movie minus a couple of big special effects shots.

So far, I am liking the "improved" board.

I remember the days when even the thought of a new forum would have been shot down really quickly. Also, I notice the lack of complaints about "some" posters who refuse to get to get a real life have been really quiet. That's always a good thing.

It's good to be back. I think one of the reasons I am back now is because this is the most active board on the internet. Now that I've been watching Star Trek and always watching the other series, I can be more involved in the discussions around here. I've always liked Bonz for some reason (Just on a "she's cool kind of way" mind you :D ) and she's doing a great job. As for giving the board another chance, I've been posting a lot this last weekend and like the changes. I guess you could say it's good to be home. ;)

Hey Computer Voice, happy belated birthday!!

And welcome back tomalak301! I'm sure I remember you; you liked laying across the bar in the Commies lounge, right? Kidding, but it's good to see you back.

I'm really not up on the politics of the board, so I'm wondering about this:

Is Lisa really gone? And has T'Bonz assumed the main head role or whater (dunno what it's called, too lazy to look :D) Eh, I always liked Bonz anyway (best butter up now), so it's no prob. I've always enjoyed this board since I joined, even if I don't do a lot of posting all the time.

Vash, I agree about the X-Files movie. The ONLY reason I could see this being put on screen was to try to remind people the show's still on & get them to come back and watch it. And maybe give them an excuse to spend bunches of money on big alien ship interiors  Admittedly, I'm not a big fan unless they're doing the gov't conspiracy stories. This was good for that reason, but not as a story worthy of being a movie.

Well, here are my thoughts about Fight the Future:

1. I agree with your comments about it not being a very good stand-alone. While I was watching, I was very engrossed myself...but I couldn't help but think about what a complete nOOb to The X-Files might be thinking. They would be *totally* lost, IMO. I mean, THEY don't know what the black sludge is...and they don't know who the Cigarette Smoking Man is either. And that's just for starters...

So while it was a cool movie for established fans of the show...I'm not at all sure it was the best film they could have put together if their intention was to appeal to a wider audience.

2. The scene at the end was awesome for Mulder, I agree. But I kept on hoping "For the LOVE OF GOD, Scully, LOOK UP!!!!!" I *really* wanted her to see that UFO. She NEEDED to see that UFO.

Why doesn't Scully EVER see the friggin' UFOs?????

3. The idea of the bees was a pretty interesting idea...and I do like that we got a few more key pieces to the puzzle in the movie in the form of the aliens wanting to use human bodies for gestation...and the consiprator group not realizing that this gestation would actually KILL us. But I was pretty surprised that they put such a KEY piece of the puzzle in the movie, and not in the show.

Of course...I guess this assured that everyone practically *had* to see the movie...so I don't know why I am so surprised.

4. Overall...a very good film from a special effects point of view. The special effects underground were particularly cool - kinda Matrix-y, actually. I liked what they did with that part of the budget!

Overall, I loved the film, myself. But I don't see how a non-established fan of the show could have enjoyed it as much.

*** flees the yellow person *** :D

This place is still more or less running itself, I see - excellent.

I saw Fight the Future a year or so ago, by which time I'd long since lost interest in X-Files. It was okay, but did nothing to make me regret giving up on the show.

Well I just watched this week's ep of Lost and wow, that was awesome. :D I am really loving this so far.
