I haven't seen Evil Dead I & II, but from what I've heard, the first is a straight horror film. The second is a remake of the first with more comedic elements, and not stupid comedy, but WTF?! comedy. And Army of Darkness, as BlackWolff said, is a laugh riot.

I get queasy at gore too, but I had NO problems with AoD. An occasional shock fright, but no gore I remember getting sick over.

Now see....I've heard alot of good things about Army of Darkness. I'd like to see that sometime....

Maybe I can get coaster to buy off on seeing that as our Halloween movie???? :p

We're watching Evil Dead as part of the Hallowe'en movie marathon held every year, and about 7 other films as well! should be fun... :)

Never seen Army Of Darkness...

You should definately see AoD...I've actually only seen it twice, but both times it was great...oh, and have you ever counted bullets fired out of a gun in a western? Usually they're okay and reload, but sometimes they slip up...well in AoD they very deliberately fired way too many bullets from guns...one of the many humorous elements, :D.

~Black Wolff

PS It has undead and the like so it sounds like a perfect Halloween flick to me! ;)

it's a gorgeous picture, though...

I did see the Evil Dead many years ago - I remember thinking it was funny...

Holy crap... season 4 is awesome! :D The Battle for Earth was... wow! :D

I'd imagine that there's a lot of cleanup to be done yet? ;)

Oh, and I can't say that I care for Sheridan's beard. :borg: And... uh... Marcus... :(

So, Steven - do you now accept that there was ample reason to keep watching season four? :p :D

I still like season 3 a bit better...but only a bit. ;)

:D Yeah, I think that Steven can agree that S4 was worth watching. :D I think that I actually prefer the fight for Earth compared to the fight with the shadows (and vorlons). Both are definately VERY cool though. :D

I really dislike Army of Darkness.

Please disregard the fact that I use a picture of it as my avatar.

Just out of curiosity...why do you dislike it?

Oh...and I'll be back later today to post about season 4 of B5, guys...I just gotta go to work soon...and posting about that is gonna take a bit of time! :)

I think I remember seeing Army of Darkness once. The army was made up of all skeletons, right?

I don't remember how gory it was, but I remember it being kinda funny. In a stupid way ;)

Yes, it's pretty funny, and yeah, it is kinda dumb at times! :p I really need to pick it up on DVD sometime.

I just really enjoyed the horror and gore of the first two, and found the third to be such a departure that it was tough for me to enjoy as much. There is a slightly longer, around 15 minutes, cut of the film that I enjoy more because there's a little more funny stuff, the main character (The guy in my avatar - Ash) is a lot funnier, and the story is allowed a little more time to breath.

My biggest gripe with the film though... Well, have you ever seen Hercules or Xena? Those two shows about ancient Greece that were by and large, fairly cheesy? Okay, I don't care how much someone may have enjoyed either of those shows (And I admit, a few episodes were pretty damn good) they were cheesy. On purpose. Now, the producers of Army of Darkness are the same as Hercules and Xena. Army of Darkness is basically a template for the style of storytelling, action and so on of the Hercules and Xena shows. Not being a fan of that over the top cheese, I don't enjoy Army of Darkness a lot.

^ Did they go the Army of Darkness route because the horror with madcap comedy combo was more successful and fun for the cast & crew?

Am I correct that Evil Dead II is basically a remake of the first one's plot with more comedic elements?

I'm turned off by gore, but I love scares. Screaming as the theater or sofa audience does, or using it as an excuse to get closer to your girlfriend. :D

Well guys....coaster and I went to see Team America this afternoon. That was a pretty doggone weird movie!

I can't decide yet if I liked it though. I laughed alot...but right now, my only feeling about it is that it was weird!

I don't know the answer to that one. My first thought is that it was studio financed and therefore designed to appeal to a wider audience - less "grueling horror". I don't know for certain though.

Many people would say yes. I would disagree with those people. Sam Raimi himself, director of the series believes all three films could be edited together into one four and a half hour marathon of Deadites.

Here's the thing. When Evil Dead II began production, the producers were unable to secure the rights to footage from the first picture - uh oh! That means no flashbacks, and in the realm of low budget horror, if you can't provide a quick recap of the events of the first film, you're often screwed.

So, they decided to reshoot the absolute miminum of material from The Evil Dead to get audiences up to speed when they watch Evil Dead II. Therefore, we see Ash take a girl named Linda to a cabin, awaken an evil spirit, and survive the first night... This is where Evil Dead II officially begins... As you may recall, The Evil Dead concludes with the evil unseen entity smashing its way through the house and directly into a screaming Ash... End movie! This exact same sequence occurs about 10-15 minutes into Evil Dead II culminating in the first appearance of "Demonic" Ash... It's where I'd argue Evil Dead II technically begins, everything else was just a prolonged recapping of events important to the sequel due to the fact that Sam Raimi simply couldn't edit in a flashback. We don't see any of the other characters like Ash's sister because she plays no role in the sequel, while his girlfriend Linda actually does.

I've thought about this way too much.

^ I don't think you've thought too much about it, The Evil Dead. I actually haven't seen the first two, and that sounds interesting, so I might treat myself to watching it. (If it gets too gory for me, I'll watch over the top of my glasses  )

I think that's how you'd feel after seeing Army of Darkness, except that I knew I liked it. What's Team America about? I like weird.

^ Well, for starters, the whole film is done with puppets.

Basically, it's a spoof film - politically and sexually, IMO. Maybe one of the guys could explain it better - it's too odd for me to explain well.
