Well, The Incredibles was a fun flick. :) The CGI was great, but I do have to say that I was really disappointed that they didn't show the trailer for Episode III.
WHAT!?!?  Man, you missed a treat. I actually went to see The Incredibles mainly cause a friend I was going to see Ray with was too tired to go, so I waited and went to see something else I was really looking forward to. But I'd forgotten the EpIII trailer was being featured. And there it was, the FIRST trailer, big and bold! The action moved too fast, kinda hard for me to catch it all. But man, I'm pretty stoked about EpIII after seeing that! It's definitely going to be vicious. We'll see how dark it gets.

But back to The Incredibles. Man, that flick was a BLAST!! That had to be the most fun I've had at the movies in a LONG time! It was a great flick for adults & kids. Great action, comedy and real thoughtful characters. I love the subtleties, like when Elastigirl says in her interview something like "you think I'm gonna leave saving the world up to the men? Are you kidding??" (you've seen it in the trailer). I like that in the scene, we see a pause in her where she sort of half-heartedly repeats her last statement, but you get the impression she really would like something more, like a normal life. And it doesn't hurt that I've always loved Holly Hunter's voice :D

I wasn't in a really packed auditorium, but there were kids & adults of all ages. There were moments either kids or adults laughed and where everyone really laughed out loud together. The flick is excellent; I'd definitely pay to see that one again!

Oh yeah, is anyone watching J.J. Abrams' new show "Lost"? Me and my g/f watched the first two episode yesterday and today. So far it seems like a lot of fun with a lot of really cool characters. Anyway...if anyone wants to discuss the show in here, we could do that. No spoilers though, or we should at least use the spoiler tags. :)
I've been watching, but I'm WAAAY too ahead of you to discuss it without giving something away. Suffice it to say, these characters only get better. I'm intrigued by almost all the lead characters. I won't give anything away, but keep your eye on the old guy (Locke) ;)

Well I did see the Ep III trailer when it came out online a couple of days ago. I just really wanted to see it on the big screen. Oh well. :)

Hehe, thanx for not spoiling anything for me. :D But yeah, knowing me and my g/f we're probably gonna catch up within a week, lol . So far it seems like a really cool show. And Locke is definately weird. I wonder what he's up to. So far I have to say my favourite character would have to be Kate. There's just something about her...I like her. Jack's pretty cool, and so is Charlie. :D

Anyway...I just watched Episode II. I've only seen it once before today (in the theatre) and it actually wasn't all that bad. Now that I wasn't expecting all that much, it was actually fairly fun. I just wish Hayden could act, lol. :D

Well, I thought I'd follow Vash's suggestion and start posting here.

Gimmie a Trixian bubble juice please.
Everybody starts cracking up. What!?!?

Anyway, Vash, I skimmed over this thread and saw you and Coaster were in Chicago recently. I lived in the Chicago suburbs for a long time. I've been to the Museum of Science and Technology a few times. Way back in the 70s my family saw the King Tut exhibit at the Museum of Natural History, it was an awesome exhibit.

In case you're wondering since I was born in Atlanta and currently live here a little history. I'm one of eight kids, Number 6. My dad got a new job and we moved to Charlotte, NC when I was six. When I was 13, my dad was transferred to the Chicago suburbs and we lived in St. Charles, IL for about 20 years.

In 1994, my employer transferred me to guess where? Yep. Atlanta. This was very lucky because when my dad retired, my parents moved back to Atlanta because they couldn't take the winters up in Chicago any more. Three of my brothers live here too. Two sisters and a brother still lives in Charlotte; I visit them there all the time.

So my third sister, the one I mentioned before is the only one of us left in the north because of her husband. If she wasn't married she probably would have moved down here.

In fact, the ONLY time I missed a first-run showing of a DS9 ep was when I was moving here. The ep was "The Abandoned", luckily I caught it on rerun.

Recently I went to the Brian Wilson "Smile" concert at Chastain Park with a couple sisters and a brother, it was a great show.

Robert

Hi hofner! Good to see you posting in here! :)

Wow! Sounds like you have quite a large family! And with many of them here, it must be great! My only family here is my sister and her husband and kids...but since we are very close, it's been great. I like being around some family - I lived in Alaska for many years, and didn't have any family up there.

BigFoot...I'm not a big Ben Afleck fan either, to be honest. But he *does* look pretty hot in red leather! :p

Daredevil was a pretty entertaining movie, I thought - not gonna win any academy awards or anything...but it was alot of fun.

As for Lost, coaster and I are TiVo'ing it and have only watched the first episode so far. Maybe we will watch another one today. The pilot was decent...not *too* many rolleyes moments. But parts were pretty predictible, IMO. I just knew that the pilot was toast, for example. And I knew that the one girl was the real former prisoner. :p

I'm also watching Desperate Housewives, which is pretty good. Only watched through episode two though. TiVo is great...but it's so easy to get behind when you have one!

Hmmm...it looks like I've been drafted into serving a few drinks. Here you go! Just don't throw it in my face please. I promise not to call you a little lady. :D

No spoilers or even speculation here, but there are several *amazing* theories as to what may really be going on in the SFF forum. I saw the Pilot Part 2 and thought it was a potentially quality show, but just not my kind. But there *may* be a lot higher-concept scifi mystery lurking than I had anticipated. Eyebrow firmly alight, I'm looking into this more.

^ I've intentionally stayed away from the SFF forum on this issue, cus invariably, I pick up spoilers, and I HATE spoilers.

But we are gonna keep watching - I plan to give it about 10 episodes and see how it goes.

Yeah, I'm just saying I thought it was more of a drama which did something interesting with a tired premise (Survivor reality series). I like some drama like West Wing, and some dramedy like Gilmore Girls, but I'm much more of a scifi bug. I like high-concept. Wonderfalls, fr'instance.

Self serve....okay!

I'll have a large chicken kebab with lettuce, tomato, cheese and galic sauce and don't be stingy with the sauce!!!!!!! :D

Oh yeah, I just wanted to mention one other thing that I really loved about The Incredibles. It had Wallace Shawn (Grand Nagus Zek) in it. :D He had such a hilarious role.

Anyone like my new avatar? :)

I see things are going along nicely here. Excellent. You've all got the hang of the self-serve idea. ;)

 *** alert...shocking confession follows...alert ***

Last night I watched The Fellowship of the Ring - for the  first time ever.

Fear not - I'll be grabbing the others at the earliest available oportunity, believe me. Still kicking myself that I waited this long. :D Anyway, to say I was impressed was an understatement. Given where I'm posting this, though, perhaps I ought to keep my opinions of the Orlando cove to myself.... :D

Unreal movie. Good to finally know what everyone else has known for several years now. :o :D

Good to see you liked it though, SB! They really are great films. Personally, I think the weakest of the three is probably the last one....it was in dire need of some editing, IMO - I thought it was ending about 5 times before it actually did end. But other than that, the films are fantastic.

And no dissin' Orlando 'round here! ;)

Actually, Legolas is HOT in LOTR...but where he really comes into his own is in TT. There are a couple of cool Legolas fangirl moments in that one, as well as in ROTK.

coaster and I watched some more Lost last night. It's okay so far...but not anything we will stay home just to watch or anything. We still have a few more episodes TiVo'd...and we will continue to watch for a while...but so far, neither of us can bring ourselves to really care about any of the characters. *sigh*

We also watched the latest ENT episode last night, and thought it was pretty doggone good. Certainly the best episode of the season so far. Hopefully, it continues! :)

Hi folks, thought I might pull up a pew and join you all.

True - if there was one Oscar ROTK didn't deserve to win it was for "Best Editing". Still, most of the edits were for length rather than pacing I suspect. December 10th is still to come so we'll see if the extended cut improves on the film. I've placed my order for the SEE collector's box - I'm looking forward to the bonus DVD about Howard Shore's score.

Anyway, let's drink.
Barkeep! A gin and orange, a lemon squash, and a scotch and water please...

What is it about Lost you don't like? I'm not a fan at all either, I don't find it as engaging as I had hoped. It's way too caught up in being just plain weird and cryptic. It'd be like every episode of Babylon 5 revolving around Kosh. And the characters aren't terribly interesting to me either... Don't get me wrong, they're okay but there's no one like a Jack Bauer or Fox Mulder character that you can immediately take a strong liking to and get emotionally attached to.

If it weren't for the mystery aspect of the show, it'd have nothing going for it. It sort of reminds me of Twin Peaks, and I wouldn't be surprised if it wore out it's energy just as quickly as Twin Peaks did.

Well me and my g/f watched another ep (1x03) of Lost last night. That was pretty interesting. So far, the show definately has a lot of potential, but I really wanna see where this whole "weird" aspect is going. Maybe there are dinosaurs on the island. :D :D

Do you need a hand with that? :D

I'm just curious though. Why haven't you watched the movie(s) until now? Is it cos of all the hype? Or did you think it just wouldn't be your cup of tea.

I've enjoyed Lost so far, but there's not one specific thing I can point to that has grabbed me. I like how they're growing and connecting the characters with background stories. Probably my favorite character is Locke; he certainly has an... eccentric personality. And there's some interesting twists about him (no spoilers). It's probably stunt casting, but I also like that they included an Iraqi survivor (Sayid). He looks like he'll be very helpful on the island, though in maybe unconventional (to Americans) ways.

It also looks like they're adding more sci-fi or fantasy aspects, so I'm looking foward to seeing how it all adds up. I hope they don't cop out and never reveal it. I'd almost rather them give a dull explanation than walk off with no answer.

Evil Dead, I never took a strong liking or any other emotional attachment to Fox Mulder, other than maybe pity for his missing sister and cause no one believes him. I guess it's possible, but I wouldn't use his character as one to model after. I was more into the government conspiracies on that show; otherwise, I didn't tune in.

Oh yeah, nice av Big Foot! I saw that poster in the theatre this weekend, and it's quite nice  I'm actually starting to look forward to more Jennifer Garner as Elektra.
