Hey all!
Lifetime gay Trekkie here living in Seattle. Grew up with the Berman-era of shows, watched First Contact in theaters, and am an eternal optimist that felt raised by the values Trek was looking to instill in others. How so, you ask? I think every episode of Star Trek, regardless of the series it is in has life lessons we can take from them. Yes, even "Shades of Grey". Though that lesson is "How not to write a TV episode" xD

I digress though, Trek itself is truly important to me and I could go on and on about why that is. Watching the bevy of Paramount+ shows with my boyfriend (we are current there) and flipping between seasons of DS9 and the Battlestar Galactica reboot. I hadn't seen BSG, and he hadn't seen DS9 so it felt... right.

Whether you are a fresh faced cadet or a grizzled old veteran, if you enjoy Star Trek, this thread is for you. So welcome Trekkies, Trekkers, and Star Trek fans alike.

I figure it would be good to have a thread for newbies to introduce themselves and those who have been here awhile can help them out. It's also cool if you've been here awhile and still want to say hi and introduce yourself. We don't discriminate - unless you're a Klingon :rommie:
Thanks for starting this thread 13 years ago! I'm a newbie on this site, but been watching Star Trek for 50+ years. Favorite past series was Voyager and Captain Janeway. For favorite present series, it's a toss up between Discovery and Strange New Worlds.

Star Wars fan (EU or choke!) here who is slowly coming back to Star Trek from my light fandom when Voyager was running. I design ship floor plans over on Deviant Art using CorelDraw and have even recreated the floor plan for the Republic Cruiser which I extrapolated from the Complete Cross-Sections book. Currently toying with an idea of a stolen D'Deridex, and will post that in the General Discussions thread.

I love technical details. Love background characters and world-building. Hoping to do the same in a fashion that stays true to canon while at the same time being an actual original idea, but we'll see how far we get.

Hiya! Got into Star Trek together with my friend in the beginning of 2023. We're hard into The Original Series and working our way through everything. It's been great fun, I haven't been this enthused about a series in a long time!
We watched a series or two over the years, but also recently became big fans of almost all the shows now.

Welcome to you and to @smalltabby. Glad to have new people onboard :)

And those who want to see the art @Michael Two Wolves is talking about can check it out here.

Thank you! Really appreciate the shout out! I'm going through all the magazines with the ship designs in them for Star Trek, but I'm going to be in there rooting around for months. Send coffee and snacks. lol

I was first introduced to Star trek with the reboot movies trilogy. I wasn't blown away, I failed to see the hype and love that spanned decades. But then I got a Netflix account and it had Star trek TOS until ENT, so my immediate reaction was I got to watch everything.

The problem was I watched this in 2016, and I was huge cynic in 2016. I scoffed at the premise of a world were all hatred, bigotry and prejudice was gone. Which is why DS9 became my favourite Trek show, but now with the Trek shows that were created because of Discovery, Star trek has become my comfort during the pandemic, the Ukraine war and now the war in Israel. It even caused me to create a comic about Star trek!

I’m still a hardened cynic. I guess that’s why I love episodes that go off the beaten trail and show some of the underbelly of Federation space. I’m more comfortable rubbing elbows with smugglers and freebooters. Lol

Hi, I'm Denise.

I saw a few episodes in its first run when I was a child, and I actually remember seeing "Man Trap," becoming frightened, and making my mom switch the channel. I rediscovered it (and Mr. Spock) when I was a teenager, and I have been a fan ever since. I am 66.

I teach composition and literature in south Louisiana. I am a transplant here. I am mostly a fan of TOS, but I did watch the full complement of TNG and read many of the novels. I watched some of DS9 but was not a great fan of it. I think I saw one episode of Enterprise. I have not seen Strange New Worlds, though I am curious about it. It's just that Leonard Nimoy's Spock is my one and only. Quinto's is a close second. But I don't mean to ding Ethan Peck or anyone who loves Strange New Worlds. I imagine I'll watch it at some point.

I am much more into the novels and hope that there will be more TOS novels though I fear their time may be over.

Anyway, I am glad to see that there is a TOS forum that I can visit to talk about the Star Trek I know and love.

So many new members. For those who haven’t, be sure to read the main rules—mostly so you know that you’ll be able to edit posts after two weeks and posting the requisite number of times.

We’re no strangers to love…
Yes, we all love science fiction and space opera. Your point is…?
You know the rules and so do I!
Well, I mean, they’re right there on the home page, so you aren’t telling me anything new.
A full commitment is what I’m thinking of…
You have to agree to the TOS, yes. Not a biggie, though. Just check the box.
You wouldn’t get this from any other guy!
Cuz you’re being annoying af right now? Why are you singing? It’s too early for that shit.
I just wanna tell you that I love you…
Whoah, dude. Personal space. I don’t even know you. And I haven’t had nearly enough coffee yet.
Gotta make you understand…
I can read the rules myself and understood them just fine. Dude, seriously? We don’t need a song and dance routine. Just stop.

The last guys we hired to do the job all seem happy enough, I guess.

I am new here, less than a week.

My first memory of Star Trek is as a child seeing Worf in TNG on screen while my dad watched. I got into Star Trek watching reruns of mostly VOY, but also DS9, TNG, and TOS on tv after school. (which also means if I was growing up today, I would never have seen Star Trek - Paramount didn't think of that when they put everything on one streaming platform). I love almost all Trek. Love that it is about humanity, from the perspective of space and aliens but not actually about space and aliens. Love the writers and series that get this as well.

I've watched Star Trek with an ex, but other than that my Trek experience has been entirely on my own.
I've been to 1 convention. I collect Star Trek Kre-o, sometimes try to design Trek lego sets. I make AI Trek Art and characters. I play STO (not as often as I used to), and as of this week I am trying to get into Star Trek Adventures, solo for now until I make other Trek friends. I am also active on Twitter where I try to follow and post about Star Trek, same name as I use here.

Favourite ship class is the Nova. It was love at first site. Coriolis comes from the Coriolis effect, which is what I was learning about in school when I watched Equinox :p

Thats me. I guess when I am no longer a Newbie and I can send PMs, feel free to say hi.

I only joined a day or two ago but already had a really sweet welcome <3

I started with AOS because they were what was on and easy to watch, then in class my friend was watching discovery so i would watch it on his laptop in class lol. I didn’t actually get into any other Star Trek shows/movies until the past year or so, i’ve watched bits and pieces but overall TOS is my fav. If you can’t tell by my user I adore Bones sm I mean who doesn’t love a sassy and sarcastic, divorced doctor from the south with a slight drinking problem?? :)

In my personal life I love maths, physics and history (though mainly the first two), I start applying for Unis (hoping to do apply for a masters in physics) in the summer

I’m a big Doctor Who fan (twelve is my favourite, I went to a con a while ago and I looked like a fool every time this 12 cosplayer walked past lmao), love going to local record shops the owners are always so sweet, big fans of star wars, marvel, and other fandom. I cosplay and like going to cons.
Maybe slightly odd but LOVE panel shows, and the comedians on them :lol::lol:

The emoticons on this site are growing on me-
Once I get the PM function and stuff feel free to message, just trying to explore the site and hopefully get to know some people into trek bc i’m in dire need of people to geek out to about ANYTHING
