Hi
I have been a star trek fan for years now, also love most scifi, especially star wars, but i am slowly rewatching the original series on bluray, recently bought the full set and next gen on bluray as well as the first 6 movies, i appreciate the fact you can toggle between the original effects and updated ones on the star trek original series set, very interesting, i love the behind the scenes info on the discs, and i find commentaries etc fascinating, growing up i built models of the enterprise and other trek characters, and i had my own business sculpting masks and prop work, now due to illness i have had to shut down and only make things as a hobby, no trek stuff yet, see what happens

Hello to one and all - newbie here who is loving the camaraderie and genuine friendship I see in the threads, and I'm already starting to recognize some names !

It's a bit intimidating - so many subjects and so many experts ! - but I feel welcome, and that's a great feeling...

Favorites are TNG, TOS, and DS9, Kirk, Spock, Picard, Data, Guinan, and Worf - my beloved Worf ! - and I'll admit to an eventual respect and even like for Q, as he really grew on me. Wesley Crusher, though, gets my vote for most annoying, least likable character ever.

Looking forward to my time here as I acclimate and make my way, and maybe make some friends of my own :)

Greetings to all. I've actually been aware of this site for several years now as most of the time when I googled a question relating to Star Trek the results would send me here and I'd spend some time a few times a year reading some of the posts, but up until now, I didn't think about posting myself. Don't know why I waited so long as I've found there is a lot of insightful and well-thought out posts by dedicated fans on a subject that has always been near & dear to me most of my life.

I've been a Trekkie (I'm not afraid of the word) since watching the original show; having discovered it in syndication as a kid in the mid to late 70's. While I've also been a sci-fi geek in general, Trek especially appealed to me in that it was one of the only shows of that genre that presented a positive portrayal of the future; something that was especially important to me growing up and experiencing so much real-life negativity. It also didn't hurt that I had a Godmother who was also a big fan and having someone to talk about my passion with was important since these were the days before the Internet and I never had an opportunity to attend conventions.

While I will forever prefer TOS as my favorite show, I remember the day The Next Generation premiered and how pleased I was that the first new Trek incarnation in so long carried on Roddenberry's vision yet could also be fresh. The quality of each new spin-off unfortunately went downhill and while I still love DS9 and most of VOY, Enterprise was really the turning point for me and I basically stopped watching after the third season and only recently re-watched the entire series, finding a few good nuggets I missed the first time; but still consider the the franchise's swan song to be VOY.

Thus, I've never seen an episode of any of the new CBS pay-shows and from everything I've read IMO, I've not missed out on much. So while a part of me is glad Trek is still appealing to a new generation of fans, but to the old school like me, it is not really Trek and I have no interest in it, but respect any alternative views.

In addition to watching and discussing Star Trek, I've amassed quite a collection of books, figures and props over the years; mostly from the TOS although they are still but a fraction of their worth due to obviously not keeping them in the original packaging. When one is a kid, future value is the last thing on one's mind...you just want to play with the thing.

Finally, a few of my non-Trek interests are in science and amateur astronomy, novel writing, bodybuilding & exercise and spending time with family and my felines, whom I've long learned to keep my Tribble replicas away from.

Anyway, glad to finally join up here and looking forward to interacting with the many fine members here and any questions, please feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer.

Interesting, there is someone else in this world (or this board) who isn't that interested in what Trek is releasing these days. I have watched some of 'Disco', wasn't my thing and reading what 'Picard' did to Jean-Luc, not that interested. The day may come when I check out some of the other new shows but my main focus with Trek is STNG and eventually I will rewatch TOS. Those are my Star Trek, right now, meaning it could change but who knows. STNG has been my favourite series for I don't remember how long and there might not be anything to change my mind. (except season one of 24, that comes pretty close)

Hello to everyone!
Glad to find this forum; I thought nobody was using forums anymore, to be quite frank.
I have always been a fan of sci-fi and space, but started watching Star Trek only a few years ago. I guess here in Russia it has never been as big as in other countries; I guess it's because in the 60-ies nobody knew about it, and by the 90-ies the interest to space had declined.
Anyways, the first Trek I watched was Discovery when it was released. I have yet to form an opinion about it; I just watched because I watch everything space-related. Then I decided to start from the very beginning and watche the pilot of TOS. I largely hated it and decided that ST was an old show reflecting values of those times and today it is difficult to watch. It was only after a year or so when I saw a poster on Netflix saying Voyager and showing a woman in uniform. I had no idea that there existed a Trek with a woman as a captain; in fact, I had no idea so many Treks existed :) I was happy to watch Voyager.
As of now, I've watched all of the VOY, TNG, Disco and Picard, and have seen some of DS9 and TOS. Now I'm watching Enterprise.
As for my preferences, at the moment I like VOY, especially because Janeway is one of my favorite characters, and I'm liking Enterprise, although I know a lot of people hate it. It is a modern show, with modern quality, the are characters I don't simply like but can relate to, and it is still Trek, promoting values like friendship, knowledge, exploration, etc. Discovery is so much darker, and Picard made me sad, I guess I'm not going to say why because some people haven't seen it; those who have, I guess you understand me.
