Weird Star Trek rumors

Oh, let's not forget the most persistent Trek rumor of all: that Ricardo Montalban was wearing a prosthetic chest in THE WRATH OF KHAN.

Nope, that was all Montalban.

I read somewhere that Nimoy described Montalban's pecs as "enviable." Yup, I would certainly agree with that!

Re: Wierd Star Trek rumors

What about the story that Kim Cattrall took nude photos on the bridge set during The Undiscovered Country filming? The story goes that Leonard Nimoy was offended and had the film destroyed.

I've read the story many places, including here:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102975/trivia

But it sounds made up to me.

Nimoy addressed this at a convention a few years back and denied it. He was pretty surprised by the rumor as well and it seemed to have been the first time he had heard the rumor.

It was covered in Cinefantastique at the time of the film's release. When Mark Altman asked Cattrall directly about the rumor, she just said, "I can't talk about that," which certainly suggests that something happened.

It sounds to me like Nimoy was just being disingenuous, hoping to stop the rumor from spreading further.

It's seems to me unlikely, Cattrall was probably being mischievous in answering that question coyly. I'm not a fan of Cattrall's stuff generally but she is a pro. She wouldn't fool around on a set in that way and Nimoy isn't some kind of secretive killjoy head master type that some might think he is judging from the Spock character.

All the silly nonsense Para Mobius and his clique spammed Facebook with a year ago, mostly about Star Trek Beyond. It ranged from Bob Orci being dragged off Paramount's lot after handing in a plagerized script, to JJ Abrams having made Star Trek Into Darkness for a mere $66 million (and having embezzled the rest of the $190 million budget), to Enterprise Season 5 being immanent and leading to the new Trek series (based on the Axanar fan film), all of which was being secretly developed for launch on January 1, 2015.

He's still at it today, under the name Doug Fitz.

I dunno....all of that sounds plausible.....I mean, they made the script as into darkness third act right? ;)

The Kim Cattrall thing has been around so long I still think of it as true. And not out of character with some of the messing around on set in trek that is documented.

I'm curious. Would the Catrall pics have shown her in full Vulcan make-up? Just wondering.

I suspect that many people believe the Cattrall rumor just because of her character on Sex and the City.

As for Nimoy supposedly destroying the pics, even if they had existed: Why would he do that? Not only was ST VI not his film to direct (if the rumor was about Nick Meyer instead, I'd be more inclined to believe it), there wasn't even a Web at that time - let alone social media - so it'd be a lot harder to leak the pics over the internet. Although I suppose Usenet could have managed.

Story I heard was that she had on her Vulcan ears and nothing else, artfully draped over the navigation console.

It would be a quirky thing to do, but I think to be able to do so would involve too many people (access to the set, lights...) that there would be no way to keep it a secret, somebody would have talked. It would be then not just a weird rumor but established fact.

Sometimes I wonder if the Catrall rumor just morphed out of the story about the actress who posed nude with the Dalek from Doctor Who. Or the photo shoot Angelique Pettyjohn did in and out of a replica of her costume from "Gamesters of Triskillion."

Aided and abetted by her later Sex and the City persona.

Didn't hurt that she did Porky's. Her career was more varied than I usually remember, but she had no shortage of sex bomb or b!@# roles. I liked that Sex and the City gave her a chance to turn that into a more interesting role.

I still can't believe that a main cast member from "Sex and the City" was ever in a Star Trek film.
That's almost as ridiculous an idea of a main cast member from "Ferris Beuller's Day Off" having a major role in "Generations".
Oh wait...That can't be right.

She was very good in the Valeris role, she's a good actress.

Frankly, what surprises me is that Kirsty Alley was effective as the original Saavik

I like to think that Capt. Harriman has a Detroit Redwings jersey in his closet for wearing when off-duty. :D

Or John Larroquette of all people playing a Klingon in the third movie . . . .
