Weird Star Trek rumors

Re: Wierd Star Trek rumors

What are some wired Star Trek rumors that you have heard. They can relate to any film or series.

One that I've heard is that Bruce Hyde (Lt. Kyle) left the series to become a hippie. However, when I posted that on this website, I was told he had become an academic. Which I have read, but was he a hippie first?

You called him Lt. Kyle.

Since he was an academic at the time of his death, its safe to say he was a "hippie" first. Memory Alpha has some details.

Re: Wierd Star Trek rumors

I read somewhere that the ninth movie would be called "Resurrection" and it would involve Kirk being brought back by the Borg.

I think someone misheard "Insurrection" and conflated it with the Shatnerverse.

Re: Wierd Star Trek rumors

I heard that there was a mooted 4th season episode where the Enterprise entered a realm where it was impossible to spell "weird" correctly.

I lie...

Re: Wierd Star Trek rumors

I read somewhere all the liquor on the show was REAL. (Yes, even the Romulan Ale, it was actually some of Daisy May ("Granny") Moses' White Lightnin' with blue food coloring).

Re: Wierd Star Trek rumors

What about the story that Kim Cattrall took nude photos on the bridge set during The Undiscovered Country filming? The story goes that Leonard Nimoy was offended and had the film destroyed.

I've read the story many places, including here:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102975/trivia

But it sounds made up to me.

Nimoy addressed this at a convention a few years back and denied it. He was pretty surprised by the rumor as well and it seemed to have been the first time he had heard the rumor.

It's just that in 2071, "I before E ... was made universal: no exceptions."

You called him Lt. Kyle.

I fixed it.

Re: Wierd Star Trek rumors

Somebody (here at this BBS) once claimed that Brannon Braga had a fit over the NX-01 not being included on one of the displays in the "all these vessels were called Enterprise" scene in the ST:TMP DE.

I don't think that person had any evidence to back up that claim.

On the webpage below, it does say that they were going to do this, but the picture would have been so small that it would have been hard to see anyway.

Re: Wierd Star Trek rumors

There's a persistent rumor (or misunderstanding) that Alan Dean Foster actually wrote the novelization of TMP, credited to Gene Roddenberry.

No. Foster ghost-wrote the first STAR WARS novelization, but by all accounts Roddenberry actually wrote the TMP book.

Yes, it is. Enterprise-I was supposed to be after Enterprise-E because they both followed Enterprise-C. But Enterprise-C was lost after that temporal disturbance in 2344. Since then, everything has been screwed up.

No one else could have gotten that novelization past an editor.

Oh, let's not forget the most persistent Trek rumor of all: that Ricardo Montalban was wearing a prosthetic chest in THE WRATH OF KHAN.

Nope, that was all Montalban.
