And she had to take diction lessons to do the accent convincingly. There have been few actual Hispanic actors in Zorro productions over the decades. Remember, in The Mask of Zorro, the original Zorro was played by Anthony Hopkins, who's also Welsh.
The only Latino actor who's ever played Don Diego/Zorro in an English-language production is Henry Darrow, who played him in the 1981 animated series and the 1983 sitcom Zorro and Son (which had a similar premise to The Mask of Zorro), as well as playing Diego's father in the 1990 TV series.
