We Needed More Q In This Season

I don't think the season needed more Q, no. For me, what the season really needed was stronger interactions between the characters - just because they were siphoned off into covid pairings didn't mean they couldn't talk to each other, they have communicators - and more integrated, cohesive, character-focused storytelling.

Much as it pains me to say it, they didn't need Soong for any reason other than to get Spiner in the cast.

John deLancie has been fantastic in all fifty seconds of screen time. I do think the character has been wasted. He was used as a plot device to kick things into gear, but I’m hoping the final episode pulls things together and delivers something meaty and worthwhile. I also hope we get to see deLancie with Whoopi Goldberg one more time (they were actually only in two TNG episodes together but it feels like more).

I agree with Serveaux, we really did not need to see another Soong. I’m not convinced the character has any real purpose in the story other than to give Brent Spiner (and Isa Briones) another paycheck.

Too bad Delancie is not coming back for season 3. I guess that was the original intent but than they changed it...

That one line was one of those very intriguing parts of the first two episodes that made me really think this was going to be a very good season of tv (and definitely better than season one.) Then the next seven episodes gradually dragged it down to not that good and maybe only barely better than season one. Especially that half hour terrible poorly shot and lit action sequeance at the start of this week's.

I want to see Q going full on desperate as his powers short out until he can't even do anything and he finally accepts Jean-Luc's help and explains in a satisfying manner all his actions this season and Jean-Luc reveals the valuable things he's learned from Q and maybe that will make up for it!

Having seen the whole season...there definitely wasn't enough Q. He was good in episodes 2 and 10. There was so much room for more. We could have really explored what it means for a Q to be dying, how that is even happening, where the rest of the continuum (including his wife and son!) are now. And we could have had some actually good Q comedy that de Lance was so good at in the old days. Like not outright zany stuff but some more fun one-liners and cutting inults. Something. More. They got de Lancie for the whole season and Q's dead now (I guess!) so why not use him for more than twenty minutes across two episodes.

And just while I'm firing off thoughts - I thought Q's sickness might've been related to The Divergence, hinting at some big-time celestial upheaval intertwined with this season's plot. Nope.

Yeah, I hoped this was the case, too. He fiddled around with time one too many times. So the events that helped his race get past their stagnation never happened. That'd probably affect them, regardless of them being near-godlike beings.

But nah. He's just alone and "moving on".

The slap was one of those moments in the first two episodes that made me sit up and take notice. When Jean-Luc says "Q, you're not well" I got the sense that Q was losing his mind a bit too. I kind of wrote my own story in my mind where Q tries to have one last romp with Jean-Luc before dying but things go wrong and he ends up needing Picard's help, as his mind and powers are failing on him. We see his powers decline as the season goes on (what was he planning when he snapped his fingers at Renee?) but by the finale...he's perfectly able to send everyone back to the future. And resurrect the dead elf. Any hint he's losing his mind is gone too, and apparently everything went completely according to his plan. But he was surprised when his powers started failing so surely things didn't go exactly as he planned?

According to S2 now, they may only have a fixed amount of energy and if they used it all up, they die.

I don't think they have a limit over their lifetime. I think it's more that when their end draws near, their power diminishes.

Q was near his end, but he had marshaled enough power to return four people to 2401, though that effort would terminate his existence (as a Q anyway). When Rios chose to stay behind, Q was able to divert one-quarter of that power into saving Elnor.
