Ways that SNW actually improved TOS

Gotta credit that design to Picard Season 1

good point. i forgot about that

i enjoyed seeing it in Pic S1 but found it odd since canon basically ignored it after TOS S1, aside from the proto-versions from Ent S2. the D'deridex ironically looks more like the Klingon BoP

The Pic S1/SNW BoP was at the Fleet Museum in Pic S3

I thought about this after some posts I made in the Gen Trek forum, but one of the things I love about Strange New Worlds is the way that it makes certain aspects of the Original Series so much better than they already were. Here's a list of a few I could think of:
Rather than retyping things, I'll just say that I agree with your list entirely. SNW has given us a nice pre-TOS window. We've got great characters in this show and it helps develop things in TOS.

Without SNW, T'Pring is a one episode guest star that appears out of the blue and then is never spoken of again. Now we've got context. And Chapel has the occasional crush in TOS, but again, more context with SNW.

Another thing I really like, that is a lot more controversial:
I am really enjoying what they're doing with the Gorn...so far.
I disagree with you about Kirk but agree about the Gorn. They've taken a simplistic creature in TOS and developed a more complex species with multiple stages to its lifecycle. It turns out the Gorn Captain was, logically, older and therefore at a slower point in its lifecycle.

They've also taken a few puzzling aspects of Arena, like how the Gorn communicated with the Enterprise and convinced them to beam down key personnel, and made them fit in.

side point: the Gorn's importance in Trek was always a bit overstated in pop culture. they show up in 1 episode each in TOS and TAS, respectively, then nothing until the mirror universe episode in Ent, then nothing until SNW s1. even the Bolians show up more than that

that said, I think SNW does veer a bit far into making Gorn monsters rather than enemy aliens.

speaking of Bolians, one thing I also like about SNW is TNG races making minor appearances or being mentioned. it's not a "this is better than TOS" thing since ofc those species were invented until TNG, but it's a nice touch, imo
