I'm just tired of hearing about how brilliant and mind-blowing the stupid graphic novel is supposed to be. It's good, it's dynamic, it is not the be all and end all of comic books.

To be as good as its defenders claim it would have to be better than something like Maus. Seriously?

When Time Magazine did their list of the top 100 english language novels from 1923 to the present, Watchmen was the only graphic novel/comic to make the list...

Loved it. A+
Actually, in the book the electric cars had been around for a long time by '85, thanks to Doc Manhatten being able to synthesize the proper materials. That's why the sign for Hollis Mason's auto repair shop said "Obsolete models (meaning internal combustion engines) a specialty!" With the electric cars not showing up till the end, that makes the sign in front of Hollis' shop make between little and no sense.

That's what I was thinking too, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

The way they lingered on the sign, I was pretty sure they were making a ham fisted allusion to Hollis Mason being an "obsolete model".

It's not that simple. Blake entered the room and Sally protested. She made the mistake of trying to reason with Blake. And then she was clearly unprepared for the sheer savagery of his assault. That's why she was quickly subdued.

If you liked the assault of Sally Jupiter then you probably loved it when Blake murdered the young Vietnamese girl.

Loved it? No. But i did see it coming and i did laugh when he popped her one. The more over the top it got the funnier it was. I do not equate movies with reality in any way shape or form. I do not feel pity or horror or any disgust over what happens to fictional characters.
Oh, of course not. Instead, when a fictional character like Sally Jupiter is beaten to a pulp, you enjoy it--by your own admission.

Exactly. Because it was so over the top it was funny...It also was not real. Plenty of characters were beaten up, maimed, killed and otherwise brutalized. Plenty of those scenes were laughed at by more than a few people as well. You seem to have a problem distinguishing between what is real and what is not.

Is that a professional diagnosis?

You're obviously unable to articulate why you were so amused by the violence in Watchmen. I think your laughter in the theater (with friends, probably) is a sign of your immaturity, and not an indication that director Zack Snyder failed in any way.

It's kinda why I - in fits of videophilic snobbery - grimace every time someone mentions buying it on DVD. Squishing these visuals down to be viewed on an archaic, low resolution interlaced video standard is tantamount to vandalism in my book. That's like smearing shit all over the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Flame away! :p

Dirty Videophile scum. You should be hung from your ba... oh wait videophile, nevermind.

I gave it a B+, I enjoyed it, but there was a few places where I felt like it dragged and had to check my watch. But overall I'd say it was a good film. I plan on seeing it again if I get chance.

Somehow I knew it would be you who made that joke!

In all seriousness though, I'm only taking the pissle. Sort of. :D

I completely loved this film, and I'm going to stick my neck out and say it's probably the best film I've seen in the last 12 months or so.

People keep going on about the ending being changed but personally I like the new ended more than I did the old one, and apparently the DVD when it's released will be 4 hours long, so maybe they filmed the squid ending too.

God Magnus' journal, March 10, 2009...

Saw "Watchmen" movie opening day. Couldn't get IMAX ticket due to friends being too slow in responding to email invite. Settled for regular showing instead. Still good.

Enjoyed movie. Thought adaptation was best yet for any of Alan Moore's work. Ending worked for me, and scenes taken right out of comic panels were visually striking. Sex scene too long and made audience laugh.

Jackie Earle Haley nailed Rorschach role, but Malin Akerman was a little weak in acting despite rocking body. Was very impressed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Enjoyed seeing Matt Frewer and Garry Chalk on big screen too. Happy for them getting work.

May have missed some details. Will have to investigate further in IMAX.

Thought adaptation was best yet for any of Alan Moore's work.

Found self in agreement with fellow Rorschach imitator. Felt warm sense of comradery for first time in years. Need cockwash.

Had idea this morning. What if Heinz did limited edition Rorschach branded baked beans. For cold consumption only.

Would feign outrage online. But larder would be full of beans.

When I saw that moment of Beany Goodness in the film I almost shouted "BEANS!" at the top of my voice.

I am sad.
