Looks like some fans have aleady seen the movie. The online reviews have been mostly positive.

Who here is going to see it or have seen it? I've read the comics ages ago and am planning to reread it once more before seeing the movie. The trailers look great.

A+

Saw it this past Monday night, it was awesome.

I read the graphic last year, after the first trailer came out, and thought it was great. Saw the movie, and thought it was just as good, if not better, especially for Nite Owl II.

And Rorschach kicks all kinds of ass in both. His line (ya know the one) got actual applause from a packed, every seat filled, theater.

That's great to hear. I was a little worried that Rorschach would take too much of the spotlight because he is the fan favorite. The Dark Knight has shown that dark superhero movies can do really well so I hope this movie is a hit.

Re: WATCHMEN - Movie Discussion and Grading

Well, Rorschach really is a central figure in both the comic & the movie, if ya think about it.

I hope its a hit, too. I know I'll pay to see it a few times while its in theaters.

Are you talking about the prison line?

I think the several decade drive to make this movie was partly the urge of a number of directors, writers and actors just to get that line into a movie that they made.

On second thought...nah, they'd have just gone ahead and stolen it. ;)

B - liked it and will be at the IMAX midnight show if I didn't like it I would not go as my midnight ticket was free.

C+

Didn't blow me away, didn't hate it ... all 2:45 of it.

Visually fascinating and Jackie Earle Haley is tremendous. And always nice to see Carla Gugino's body for any reason.

The best laugh for me was the name of the diner that two them come out of.

Most of the Mars scenes are terrific. Some attempts at blatent humor fall flat, though.

For perspective, I've never read ANY of the graphic novels, so I'm looking at it from an objective POV. Just another sci/fi graphic novel adaptation.

C - Some of the dialogue seems odd when spoken aloud and I thought the pacing was all over the place.

I think comic book fans are going to eat it up but regular joes are going to come out and go "huh?"

Think I'm going to pass on the movie. I've read the comic when it originally came out and don't have any interest in seeing it. Therefore my grade is N/A.

It's good. Makes a lot less sense if you haven't read the book, but a reasonable argument could be made that you don't deserve to enjoy the film if you haven't read the book.

(an equally reasonable argument could be made that, yes you do)

there's not much changed in the plot that much until near the end, some things happen in a slightly different order and the flashback structure doesn't flow as nicely as it did in the comic but... it's the comic put on screen. frames from the panels made into shots.

It's very violent, It deserves it's 18 rating for more than just Doctor Manhattan's big blue willy. Could the story have been told without so much of it? Probably, did this comic have this much? Yes. but there's something more horrific in film then on the page. Still, I'd rather this than a watered down '12' rated version... yuk!

one problems I had with Zack Snyder's take, I haven't seen his other films I haven't seen, uses speed ramps in the film leaving the impression that the heroes have superpowers or at least buffy style super strength.

It's closer to it's source material than 'V for Vendetta' but like that example it works better as a companion piece after you read the original than standing as a film in it's own right.

That sounds like the director of 300 all right. Well at least it will look cool.:rommie:

A

Saw it Monday night, never having read the source material. I thought it was great.
The comic is now on the top of my reading list. Nice to know the hype wasn't blown totally out of proportion.

Yet another preson, who never read the comic, but really enjoyed the movie. The comic is coming I'm gonna have to read. A-
