Actually, you know what's sad? Any artist or writer who goes against the wishes of the original creator and participates in this project. I don't care if it's Darwyn Cooke or Rob Liefeld or Stan Lee himself. It's quite simply disrespectful. Just because they and DC have the legal right to do it doesn't mean it's morally right. And if you think it's morally right, I can't help you. Is that enough "elaboration"?

The Simple Answer:

They are doing it for money.

I don't think Watchmen should be off limits, but I do think any attempt to do a sequel will fail. Only 3 of the "heroes" still exist, and 2 of them have changed their identities and seem unlikely to take up crimefighting again.

Well, if the sequel is about crimefighting, it will indeed fail. But there are bigger, more interesting issues that could be explored, I think.

I'm actually excited for these...the creative talent on them is impressive. I will probably be getting all of these or wait until they're collected in trade at least. Sounds like we can expect the first issues sometime in the "summer".

Too bad, he of all people should appreciate the pain caused when you go screwing with somebody else's master piece. Maybe Alan Moore should start work on Babylon 6.

I'd actually be more interested in a Watchmen 2 than a Watchmen 0.5 ... the preceding story isn't nearly as interesting as the Ozymandias plot. Obviously many would be outraged to have the ending interpreted, but I'm curious!

Rich is patting himself on the back...I'll give him credit, as far as I know, he's been one of the only ones that have continued to report on this for a long while. Given what he did with the New 52 story, I'm surprised he didn't just outright report it.

Given the quality of 100 Bullets and the current ongoings of Spaceman and Wonder Woman, then I'll very likely be collecting the Azarello books - both Rorschach and The Comedian fit his witing style perfectly IMO

Aaannnd, given how much I enjoyed Rising Stars, Midnight Nation and Supreme Power, I think the JMS ones will be collected also.

Which means I may as well get the rest ;-)

Wouldn't it be hilarious if they wrote a sequel based on the movie's ending rather than the comics? The entertainment value of the fanboy reaction alone would be totally worth it.

Seriously though, I don't have a problem with these books. As I say whenever people get too animated about unwelcome sequels, reboots or reimaginings; no matte how good or bad it turns out, the original isn't going anywhere. I happen to think the KJA/Brian Herbert Dune are bloody awful, but I can just glance over at my bookshelf and rest assured that my old dog-eared copy of Frank's original novel hasn't spontaneously combusted or mutated into some unholy freak of literature, but is just as good as it ever was.
