Watching Babylon 5 for the first time... *Spoilers, duh*

By the way, my images disappeared. I think it's because I posted them and they weren't from a personal photo account, so if that's what happened, then yeah, I deserved that. I was in a rush to find pictures of Kirk and license plates to match my emotion.

I'm thinking Sheridan confronting Kosh is one of the best scenes in the show.

I actually found it genuinely impressive by how they managed to get that suit to emote. I mean just going by the way it moves you get to see the character run through impatience, irritation, anger, remorse, resignation and even some melancholy. Up until this point we had zero idea what could possibly run through a Vorlon's mind but here we see that at the very least they're emotional beings.

I mean, really, with Kosh gone, who is Lyta going to get her, um, services from? You can't tell me you didn't see something awkward going on the first time you saw a couple of her scenes with him, when you were in the dark about the whole thing like I still am.

You're closer to the truth than you might think (no this isn't a spoiler!) in real life, the guy wearing the Kosh suit was Pat Tallman's husband. ;)

^^ What?! I never heard that before!

Kosh is my second favorite character on the show. My first... you'll meet in a while ;) It really sucked that he died, but he went out in a great way.

It's true. Producer's Associate Jeff Willerth was the guy inside the suit for the series (it was somebody else for the pilot). The voice of Kosh was Ardwight Chamberlain.

"Ship of Tears"!

Got it. I've been re-watching the series form the beginning, inspired in part by reading your reviews. :techman:

Well, I'm honored. :techman:
Plus, it helped that last weekend I hosted a mini-marathon of pre-selected episode in preparation for a panel I'm moderating at an upcoming convention. :D

Someone's going to die? Someone's going to die! Goodness gracious, it's... oh, it's just Adira. Yeah, I definitely feel bad for Londo and I'm ready to choke Morden over this for his loss, and I fully recognize that this is probably the passing of another opportunity for Londo to redeem himself. But since I haven't seen Adira (but for lovely black-and-white in this episode) in a long, long while, and when I did see her I was still on-the-fence about this show, it didn't strike me so much as it struck me because it struck Londo. Hey, whatever works.
You are right that Adira's death doesn't have that much impact for us but rather to underscore what was happening to Londo. However, I never too that teaser to be referring to her.

...KOOOOOOOSH!
THIS was the death to which it seemed they were alluding, made all the more painful by his dream contact with Sheridan ...... as Sheridan's father. A theme we seem to have repeated. :D

You can't tell me you didn't see something awkward going on the first time you saw a couple of her scenes with him, when you were in the dark about the whole thing like I still am. Whoever this Vorlon replacement ends up being, there's no guarantee they'll hold a candle to Kosh. I think for all the characters who will feel the loss of Kosh, Lyta is the most broken by all this. Ultimately, she may end up having to pursue relationships with humanoids, and for that she has my deepest sympathies.
You have no idea how right you are on some of this. Just let me say it gives Lyta chance to eventually utter the dirtiest line in the whole series ..... even if it was never intended that way. ;)

Those were inline images, which we prohibit (if they are not hosted on free or personal web space) as it increases expenses for the hosting site.

I don't think Pat and Jeffrey are together anymore, though.

Those of us who were in Pat's fan club back when they had a snailmail newsletter were gifted one Christmas with the following trading card stuck in a card with the notation "I saw Lyta kissing Santa Kosh."

You know, the funny thing is, I had no idea there was a teaser hinting at a character death... I was just messin' around.

Neroon, you're doing a panel for a convention? Where at? According to your location, you reside in or close to Neroon, but call me a super sleuth -- I ain't buyin' it!

That's a rad picture of Lyta and Kosh.

"Walkabout"

That's right. I'm watching in Master List order. So whatever this "War Without End" thing is -- I'm sure it's hugely irrelevant -- it's going to have to wait.

I'm regularly happy to have another Franklin story, almost without exception. The thing I like most about this show's doctor is that so many of his plots involve how helpless he is when facing the great galactic metaphor for the big, scary world we all live in. I really dig his religion, his philosophies, his particularly human qualities. I was glad to see him again so quickly after last week's breakdown, trying to piece it all together. To find himself... almost literally, eh?

Much of Franklin's romance was by-the-numbers and didn't resonate with me a whole lot -- until I saw where JMS was going with it. I thought it was just going to be about him getting lucky (in more ways than one) and finding another version of 'himself' very bluntly, what with the woman's apparent addiction. But when things got turned upside-down as he learned of her condition, the whole thing suddenly sold itself to me and I was more than satisfied.

Meanwhile, after slumping ratings brought on by alleged franchise fatigue, the station is dormant of any Vorlon activity for some time before a successful reboot with a darker, edgier nuKosh.

You know, one of those few, far-between things I remember about this show from my childhood finally clicked into place; I specifically recalled a different look for Kosh happening at some point. When someone mentioned to me several weeks ago that the show seemed to get a bit of a budget increase between the first and second seasons, I expected a wardrobe upgrade. I had no idea it involved the death of one Vorlon and arrival of another, and I still miss Kosh to the utmost, but this one definitely looks, uh, higher-tech.

I was glad to see Lyta again; it made sense to bring her back after what transpired. And I was edge-of-my-seat with the big lab experiment shooting war, and relieved to see G'Kar taking a stand. Even if that part was foreshadowed to the point that it wasn't remotely surprising, it was still a nice thing to see happen.

A B5 thread this many years after....wow!
Well not that it makes me wonder either...those where great days!

Oh, we have B5 threads all the time. It seems like somebody is always discovering the show for the first time. It's awesome that the show is that timeless.

Haha and all the discussions...
97 was my first time logging on to the B5 board.....eh that is ages ago...
I am actually rerunning them after not have been seeing anything for the last 7-8 years I think...
Was hooked instantly....bought all the DVD's sometime ago...could not find any BlueRay versions...would prolly look bad anyways...even have my old VHS tapes...haha
Man I actually miss those times back then!!!
Had a whole lot of online contact back then....still talk to a few these days....and hang out here from time to time, just to see what is going on in the old world of sci-fi and such:)

This thread has motivated me to rewatch the series, which I just saw for the first time about 2 years ago. There are no Blu-Ray versions (yet?), but I'm not sure they'd look too terrible. I'm watching the DVDs on my 50" plasma and they look great!

Heh yeah got a 3D tv...very revealing thing....looks good there...
Would be nice if they made them BR...

I even bought all the X-files as well....haha
I'm getting nostalgic...haha
