Watched My First Classic Who

My favorite oldies were always "Invasion of Time" and the 6 part "Key to Time" series (well, Krull not so much). Aside from those, I remember watching "Pyramids of Mars", "Talons Chiang" and "Invisible Enemy" a lot. But I recently saw Enemy again and it wasn't that hot, I guess I just liked it for K-9!

Pyramid of Mars is pure classic who, from the story, to the acting, guest actors, music and a great evil baddy.

Brilliant serial.

i liked:
War Games
Tomb of the Cybermen
Invasion of the Cybermen
Three Doctors
Spearhead from Space
Inferno
Battlefield
Rememberance of the Daleks
City of Death
Genesis of the Daleks
Destiny of the Daleks

out of the ones i watched recently

Just to clarify - I'm not askin' for suggestions, nor will I be givin' my friend a list of classic Who that I "must" watch, since I don't know what he has. I didn't ask for this DVD - he offered to loan me some classic Who, and Genesis of the Daleks is what he chose to loan me.

Like I've said, if he wants to loan me other DVDs, I'll check 'em out, but no rush or anything...

By the way THE, My son and I loved the avatar that you had of Doc Ten holding his hands out... Just something about it.

Hey, thanks! :techman: If you didn't save a copy...

Thank you sir... Gotta love that. I was on line one day and my son saw that avatar from across the room and screamed.... DAD look.... its the doctor. He was 12 at the time. Still enjoy the fact that he is so completely involved in the same show I loved as a young teenager. Don't know how much time it took for you to come up with your avatar... But to me its perfect. Great Job!

Ooooh, so you just posted here to stir up trouble did you? Why I outta.... ;)

Fine. Then send your friend over and we'll give him our lists. :)

Oh man, I didn't do that pic. I think that's a real picture of Tennant. It never occurred to me that it might be someone else's Photoshop, though. I'm pretty sure it was an interview pic taken when he was cast. I could be wrong, though.

And, I've never been able to decide what's between his fingers....a pen or a cigarette?

I was gonna say... it's a cool av and all, and no disrespect to you The, but it's just a bloody photo! :wtf:

Well, that wasn't the goal, but it seems to have been the outcome. :D

I just felt like sharin' that I'd finally seen more than just the 5th Doctor in 'Time Crash'.

Now, I have seen Tom Baker's Doctor, and I gotta say...

...really? That's what all the fuss is about?

The quote in my sig is from a Tom Baker serial, it is a hilarious line, he delivers it so plainly, cause his hat really is on fire!

You really gotta watch more, the one you saw had a pretty serious tone to it.

Tom Baker wasn't that amazing in his first couple of years, he was generally angry and shouting back then. It wasn't until the middle years he became an absolute goof-ball. When I think of him I think of the Key to Time era. With the stuffy Romana I and the know-it-all K9 as his companions, it was the perfect comedy team.

I don't agree. Starting with season 16, Tom Baker hams it up most of the time and can't seem to be bothered to do anything that could be identified as actual acting. Most of the comedy is either of the panto variety or unintentional. Basically, we're laughing at a delusional drunk.

I love Tom Baker in seasons 12-15 and in season 18, though.

Thenthe "delusional drunk" Doctor is my favorite Doctor. :)

After season 16 Tom Baker became uncontrolable and he admitted to that in The Leisure Hive DVD by season 18 he refused to be directed.

Then the "delusional drunk" Doctor is my favorite Doctor. :)
Really? What is it about his performance that you like? Because from where I'm standing, we're looking at an actor who constantly undermines the dramatic tension of all scenes, who seems so bored by the scripts and so underwhelmed by the cardboard monsters that he plays everything for laughs, and who's become so full of himself that he refuses to make eye contact with his acting partners. By that point, his once sharp and witty Doctor had become increasingly frivolous and clownish.

I won't say that Tom Baker never was entertaining during the Graham Williams year, because he regularly was, but the quality of his performance very rarely rose beyond the level of panto acting.

I've enjoyed all the seasons that I've watched of both the original and the current Doctor Who programs, and I like all ten Doctors. My favorite Doctor and era just happen to be Tom Baker during seasons 16 and 17. I love that he played for laughs. I laughed. Plain and simple.

Fairy'nuff. I grew up on Tom Baker, and took him equally seriously over the whole time, and now appreciate the different (imply italics) aproaches he used over the years.
Though Horns of Nimon did seem like a joke when I was 12. Now I appreciate the joke...

I'd have to say that seasons 16-17 were the main reasons Tom stopped being my favorite Doctor. I guess I tend to prefer a more heroic Doctor (which is why Pertwee is probably my favorite) to one just tramping about the universe impressing people with his cleverness and not really giving a damn about anyone or anything. Not that I'm ragging on anyone who liked it of course. I just wasn't for me.

Interesting how the Doc seemed to lose his way after Sarah Jane left. Us more romantic types might conclude that Sarahs affections weren't exactly one-sided.
