Was this the birth of the split between the Alterans?

Ive been thinking for a very long time, too long but wondered about the Alterans and where this whole Ascension thing came from. I mean the Ori had to start their religion somehow and based off something right?

So im thinking the Alterans on their home planet found evidence of a structure. Buried deep within the background radiation. They believed at one time this structure had genuine complexity. coherence. Therefore could not have occurred naturally.

So maybe realizing this and feeling something was behind this and made them all, that they made a religion out of it and if they could Ascend they could learn these secrets.

Now the part of how to learn to Ascend is what im thinking split the Alterans .

I could be wrong but trying to feel in the gaps here.

Why did the ancient build the Ark of Truth? At that time was there already Ascended Ori whom wanted the other Alterans to worship them and our ancients didnt go for it and just packed up and left?

I keep having the nagging suspicion that the Alterans will be shown to have suffered the split into multiple factions, not just too, and that the Lantians and Ori will be shown merely to be two "cults" effectively, one more rational than the other, but still minorities of the Ancient civilization.

Further, there's a question about Destiny's mission not having been finished. Did those who ascended merely advance to the point that they discovered the relevant information on their own or did their ascension research jump the gun? Perhaps they gave up waiting on Destiny when they figured out a basic way to transfer their personal consciousness into the substrate of space-time.

Obviously, these ideas about the universe having hidden structure are new, not having existed during previous Stargate series. By convenience though, nothing was ever shown that specified that the ascended beings were aware of any secret structure in the universe. It could be retconned that the ascended in the milk way have tremendous knowledge due to their nature but their actual consciousness is not really that different from mortals (just larger in capacity) and they never did figure out how to see the big "secret" in the universe.

also, the fact that the omnipotent aliens in SGU seem abstract and don't communicate directly with mortals could indicate that discovering the big secret changes you far more than just turning into a disembodied intelligence with some super powers over matter and energy. Plus the aliens don't seem to be worried about interacting with and interfering with mortals. If they were just like the ascended beings in other galaxies, wouldn't there be a truce with all the other cosmic powers preventing them from directly mucking about with physical reality?
