Was the actress cast to play T'Pau too young

In STAR TREK canon - the actual shows I'm talking about, now, not fanfiction (novels) or fanfilms - Surak is revered as The Father of Peace. Bones, in a couple of episodes, referred to how Vulcans are peace worshippers. And yet, T'Pau is so damned aggressive ... so overreactionary and unethical, in her treatment of T'Pol and Archer as prisoners. In fact, if you kept the script, but changed the name of Syranites to Romulans and T'Pau to something else ... you'd need no further modifications, portraying her as Romulan.

In short:: T'Pau wasn't very Vulcky ...

You mean because she was willing to remove the Katra by force?

That was her most egregious misdeed, yes. But as prisoners under the auspices of Surak's followers, T'Pol & Archer were granted NO rights. None. Promoters of Peace are amongst the bravest of people, especially those with any real clout. Christ, Ghandi, MLK and many others have been killed - not by sworn enemies on the outside - but from their own countrymen. Surak was such a Man, whose basic philosophy is one of respect, tolerance and shared responsibility.

Even when it's clear that Archer possesses the katra of her beloved leader, T'Pau still treats him like a common criminal. In fact, it's not until Archer swears up & down that he knows where the K'Shara is, that she displays any goodwill towards him. Demonstrated, in part, by even allowing him to cart it around, once it's been reclaimed. Indeed, it is only the adventures of the journey in taking the K'Shara to The High Command, that T'Pau lightens up, at all. Then, when The Day's been won, she's all tolerant and generous and forgiving ... for no other reason, than because it's in the script.

You know what the real problem is? It's that perfect people are boring as hell. T'Pau may have been more accurate but much less interesting to watch if she was how you say she should have. Note that your grievances are most likely right but we shouldn't lose sight that this is entertainment.

Interesting. Could it be that Syrran spent most of his time away from his followers and hence did not give much chance for the followers to experience Surak's katra directly? Then T'Pau, in her focus to save Surak's katra forgot the ultimate basis of the teaching? And only after the Kirshara is retrieved that they understand Surak's teaching better?

Her logic was flawed.

"Free," when it's on the telly, sir ...
Almost nothing is free, and odds are that if you aren't paying, you're the product being sold. Which is true in this case - they use the shows to lure you in so they can sell your attention to advertisers. I'm not saying it's a bad deal, necessarily - especially if the show is good. Just that it isn't "free".

Being provoked is no excuse for a Vulcan. They're supposed to be better than that.
Nah. Provoking Vulcans is pretty much the nation sport of Star Trek. Their attempts at not trying reacting are the best. Being irritated is almost their default position. :lol:

I must be Frank & Ernest: adverts have never been any influence on over my purchases. Any more than the ads on this site have ever made me want to fly out to China, or Russia ― to find my Perfect Mate.™ Just because I am a STAR TREK fan, it doesn't mean, or suggest, that I have to embark upon such a monumental undertaking for the company and attentions of women of the opposite sex. The fact that, from the advertisers' perspective, you may be a defective product, doesn't mean you aren't part of the product package they're paying for when they buy an opportunity for the eyes and attention of those watching the shows. They're buying a stack of lottery tickets - yours just doesn't have any big win for them. But if you watch the ads, they probably *have* influenced you at some point, even if only to make you aware of a product's existence that you might not have known about otherwise, so you're still a bigger win than viewers who always mute commercials or leave the room or otherwise remove the commercials from their perception entirely. BUT - they have statistics on those things, and consideration of their habits, and your apparent general unresponsiveness to subliminal ads or Freudian tricks, is factored into the price they pay for the commercial time.
