Was Takei's reason silly for not appearing in Generations?

I finally lost my patience with Takei and unfollowed him on social media after he went out of his way to bash Shatner again after his space flight. He's a small, small man and that broken record is beyond tiresome at this point.

Reading between the lines, the Hurley script was written to be intentionally terrible to ensure that the Braga/Moore script was chosen.

It was only the studio's insistence on having two scripts that meant it was commissioned in the first place, so Berman asked Hurley to do him a favour.

I guess the reason it's never leaked is because Berman doesn't want it out there because it's rubbish and would make Hurley look bad.

Seems plausible. I've heard about producers sending their favorite actor for a part to the studio or network along with one they're not as enthused about to make the first actor look better in comparison. This would be much the same practice.
