Was pretty excited for this show.. but ultimately underwhelmed...

FWIW, I'd love a Trek that embraced and remembered all their universe-changing gimmicks. Combine transporter immortality and cloning with the commbadge-sized transporter from Nemesis and then combine that with Old Spock's transwarp formula and you can go anywhere.... it's almost humanity taking it's first steps toward being a technology-assisted proto-Q.
File the serial numbers off of it, and that would be a very interesting universe to play around in.

Creators and writers of this show sure know how to make many fans angry.

At first Stewart wasn't even interested in returning as Picard. (right?)
After discussions and storyline ideas Stewart gets interested. Go team.
Without Stewart this show wouldn't exist.
After getting him to do the show, which may not have been obvious at some point (?), they kill his beloved character.
Also, not just Picard, lets kill some other fan favourites too. Many fans like Data. Lets kill Data because the actor doesn't want to do this character anymore.
There was this character called Hugh in some episodes of TNG. Lets kill him too. Remember that nasty cyborg brain engineer in season 2? He won't return to play the role but a lot of facial hair and it's the same guy, right? Lets kill him too. Lets kill fan favourites from great episodes, as many as possible so the earlier episodes of TNG just aren't the same anymore.

So, the people in charge got a retiree to return even if he wasn't interested at first and then killed his character. No wait, there's a copy of him. Well, copy yeah, not exactly the same as original but we can make him do things real Picard might not do. Lets make Picard do things that might irritate some people and say "hey, it's not really Picard, is it?"

What a stupid mess. I haven't visited the series and after reading things about it I'm not very interested, if not at all interested. But hey, this is a thread for this kind of stuff?

Why not watch it and judge for yourself? I can admit my bias, and others are biased too, both for and against, based upon their preferences in Star Trek.

To me, all the things done in Picard have been done in past Trek, from Picard's death, to struggles with AI and Romulan threats. There only difference is in execution.

No, I don't know it. How is it any different? Please, elaborate.

Because one is showing a person transported between two points.

And the other is having a person die and then get reborn in an artificial body, with whatever life expectancy he or she wants.

99% of viewers watching the show will never even consider the former as "solving death" when that's literally the only thing the latter is.

But, that is the implication of both transporter technology and various other tech demonstrated in Trek. The transporter is show reversing aging, or increasing aging (in Rascals), the Genesis formula can revive a person, etc.

Picard's solution is keeping inline with past Trek tech. Except, it's actually exploring the implications of a transhuman approach, rather than filing it away for later.

I view Picard's death in the finale as the culmination of the main story about a sick, old man trying to do something good in his final days. The rest of the story, while more prominent, is just window dressing.
The plot bears out a sort of unintentional bucket list. He attempts to recapture his youthful energy in Stardust City, says goodbye to old friends, etc. That said, his death was a bit rushed, but the imagery of a dying man choosing to shorten his time to protect the innocent justifies it in my mind.
His resurrection, or copy, does seem to evoke reincarnation. It is clear Picard died, yet he wakes up into a new life where he can improve himself further.

right Picard died and that was it for him. The copy of him which is a “mapped image” as copy data explained is just that a copy put in a android body. So basically the real Picard actually died and if there is a afterlife he is there. This new copy if Picard will just stop once the mechanics stop working and that’s it.

no the genesis effect deaged the body and rejuvenated it.
So we are told but that doesn't mean the body wasn't change, since the bacteria on his casket were changed.
Not to mention, it was a copy of his consciousness. It was copied to McCoy, then that copy was copied to NuSpock. Functionally there is no difference, except the copy was kept in an bio-organic receptical instead of a synthetic receptical.
Man, and I thought downloading work manuals was bad. Downloading my consciousness? That speed was be ridiculous.

When Patrick Stewart passes away, a lot of you will suddenly appreciate this series more as one his later if not last performances. Then you'll realize how you come off right now and that you didn't appreciate what was in front of you while it was still around because all you can see is in the moment and winning some stupid internet debate.
