Was Jadzia dull ?

Just because Jadzia was very well balanced, disciplined, restrained, and wise, that certainly doesn't mean they can't have made her interesting.

Picard, for example, was extremely well-balanced, disciplined, restrained, and wise, but he was an amazing character.

Maybe it was all down to the actor?

Although I suspect it has more to do with context. And it would have been nice to have seen Jadzia having more "heroic" things to do.

For example, if you place Jadzia into Captain Picard's position in any great TNG episode, she would have seemed a lot more heroic and more respectable. I think she would have fit in better with more responsibility, more leadershp, more tough decisions to make, and more of a general position of respect.

Likewise, I think if you put Captain Picard onboard DS9 doing what Jadzia did (what the hell did Jadzia do anyway?), you would have a similarly wasted opportunity.

So I think context, and role (and probably actor) have a lot more to do with it than actual character.

That's not to say I think Jadzia and Picard are comparable. Picard is, of course, legendary. But I do think there are similarities in their characters.

I certainly think someone like Picard would have been a better mate for Jadzia than Worf. For all the "tough macho Klingon" stuff Jadzia did, she herself was always very gentle and intellectual, much more like Picard in spirit.

Ezri was better cuteness-wise too.
I agree. Especially Mirror Ezri, who was just totally and completely hot in every way! (Man, was she hot!)

She was also extremely interesting, and I reckon if we'd had a character like Mirror Ezri from season 1, Dax could have been an amazing character, similar to Quark, with questionable ethics.

Thanks.

Here's a great way to test it. (In 5 simple steps!)

1. First, think of three truly great Jadzia moments from the show.

2. Struggling? OK, how about just one?

3. Can you actually remember Jadzia doing anything memorable in the show at all?

4. (And no, cheap lesbian kissing scenes don't count.)

5. Conclusion: we got more on-screen personality when Odo took liquid form.

Well said. I can't think of anything memorable Jadzia ever did. Except maybe when she died.

She was no Leeta!

Thanks Bill.

LOVE your avatar! :D :D :D

I'm guessing that's what your holodeck would look like if you owned one?

I couldn't show my holodeck in my avatar. First, it would be too sexually explicit, and second, there wouldn't be enough room to fit all the women in it.

she was cool at first, for like the first 2 season. but once they turned her into the comic relief of the show at times it just didnt work. plus all the stuff with worf was just crap but then again worf should not have been there in the first place

Jadzia was one of my least favourite characters, well actually if im honest it wasnt the character it was the actress, I would have rather had someone else in that role.

I didn't realize there were so many Jadzia haters out there. She was always my favorite DS9 character. My only beef is that she died in season 6!

Welcome to the club then. :bolian: It was only after I joined the TrekBBS that I discovered that there are so many who hate her. That really took me by surprise. Well, she's not exactly my favorite character, but I really like her and can't understand the hatred.

I'm wondering if this is just a phase. When I came here, there were quite a few people who liked Jadzia but now it's "cool" to hate her.

I don't know if it is "cool" among internet fans to hate her but I was indifferent to Jadzia long before I ever set eyes on the internet. In fact, I found the recurring characters far more interesting than the mainn cast with the exception of Kira or Odo.

I had no problem in the later seasons that Garak, Weyoun, the Founder, Damar, Dukat, Martok overshadowed the regulars.

There is many years of history of half or so of posters on DS9 fan boards hating Jazia. Not sure about how that history applies to TrekBBS in particular. But certainly, a large portion of DS9 fans hating Jazdia is not a "new" phenomenon at all.

And, those of us who hate her, don't hate her because "it's cool to". Rather, we have very solid reasons we can backup our hate with. :D

I don't hate Jadzia. Hate is far too strong a word. She's too passionless to really engender such an emotion. I'm just indifferent.

Mine too as well as allot of people I know. TrekBBs'ers hate Jadzia, Seven of Nine & T'Pol. Let's face it, you people just hate hot women. :p

Too answer the question: Jadzia was freakin' hot, who cares if she was dull?

Dizzyman : "To The Death"- Jadzia fights like a Klingon and kicks Jem'Hadar ass.

"In the Pale Moonlight"- The exchange between Sisko & Jadzia is great acting. She mimics the emotions & ideals of a Romulan perfectly.

Besides, what's to hate about Jadzia? She was everything every Trek fans wants to be if Trek were real.

Best friends with the Captain. Thanks too Curzon, she was Starfleet's equivalent to a celebrity, offical honorary Klingon & Worf's sparing partner, was accepted and respected by the Ferengi, had sex with whomever she wanted, piloted the Defiant, had the knowledge of 7 lifetimes, socially accepted everywhere & knew how to have a good time at a party and could blend in in any era. Hell, even the Jem'Hadar liked her. What's so dull about any of that? Jadzia did more in a week than most of us do in a life time.

Jadzia was all that.(snap!)

When I was younger, I was smitten with Jadzia (in more ways than one! :D), but as I grew older I grew more impressed with Major Kira. Jadzia doesn't seem as authentic a character.

I don't hate her at all. I always "liked" her in a sense. I just don't think the character was very interesting. She could have been so much more.

Kira was da bomb too but after while the angry woman routine gets old and you end up looking for someone a little less hostile. Jadzia appeals more to me because while their is beauty, she also the type of character you could sit down with and have a deep meaningful conversation with, as well as being cool watching the football game with you & your buddies. I also feel in the long term, Jadzia has allot more to offer whether it be a romantic relationship or just a friendship.

Nope, just hotties that couldn't act their way out of a paper bag ;)

I've got no problem with either Seven or T'Pol, but Jadzia's one of the few things about DS9 that bugs the fcuk out of me. Jadzia is dull and Farrell can't touch NdB in the acting stakes.

My primary beef with Jadzia is that they killed her off six years too late. ;)

Another memorable Jadzia moment

Helping expose the Bajoran Coup against the provisional Government. If it weren't for her and Kira, Starfleet would have been off the station.

Here's a great way to test it. (In 5 simple steps!)

1. First, think of three truly great Jadzia moments from the show.

1.Her Bachelorette Party/Marriage to Worf
2.Teaming up wtih Kor, Koloth, and Kang
3.Fighting her past host that was a serial killer
4.Beating Quark at Tongo
5.Being put on trial for Curzon's actions
6.Trying to get Kira to open up and not be such a prude
7.Flirting wtih Julian
8.Damn did she look good in TOS mini-skirt
9.Honey Bee
10)Tragic death scene

One of the most overlooked things of the show was her sisterhood with Kira. There had never really been a pair of girlfriends laughing it up and talking about boys on a Trek show before or since. People always talk about O'Brien and Bashir but always forget this one.
