Was Chris Hemsworth considered for James T. Kirk?

With Hemsworth you'd have to put Quinto in heeled boots. Can't see that myself.

I think Zach probably owns more than a few pair of heels. :p

He probably shops at the same store as Dr. Rick Marshall.

OTOH, Wolverine's supposed to be short in the comics, but Hugh Jackman is a tall man, so they made it happen anyway in the movie. But I can see where you can get away with that going from comics to live action movie, and not so much with live action series and movies to live action movie.

I can see that. The height thing would be a problem

If they can take John Rhys-Davies and turn him into a dwarf im sure they can handle taking a 6 foot 3 tall dude and making him look 6 foot 1 :p

Actually...not easily, no.

They accomplished that in LOTR by casting 5'5" to 5'7" "hobbits" who stood next to the 6'2"" "dwarf" and the 7'4" human/elf stand-ins. ;) No digital wizzardy involved for many of those shots. Conversely, when the actors playing the "humans" and "elves" were in frontal shots, the short stand-ins were costumed as hobbits and dwarf(s). Once of those little stand-ins plays Keenser in XI you know. Gotta save your FX $$s for where they do the most good.

With Hemsworth you'd have to put Quinto in heeled boots. Can't see that myself. Plus he's larger framed.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Hemsworth. He made an incredible impression with very little oncsreen time. He's one of the yummiest hot ones from XI.
Actually easily, yes ;) Most shots that were up close, where you would actually see the two actors near each other didn't show their feet. Just make him stand on a box. If they can show me a planet getting eaten from the inside on the screen I'm absolutely positive they can handle making someone one inch taller. They've certainly had harder tasks in the past and I highly doubt a height issue of one or two inches would have been a deal breaker.

Also, you wouldn't exactly need heeled boots, you can distribute the height all around

I wouldn't. he was great as George Kirk, but he doesn't have that certain je ne sais quoi that Pine does in this role.

It is a tough choice between the two, and I guess we'll never know. Still, Chris Pine did a great job. He seems to have some very charismatic qualities. Perhaps Hemsworth was just a little too young to carry a three movie contract, too much range might have been required. Visually speaking though, he is slightly hotter than Pine in my little opinion.

Chris Pine looks to possess an intense drive and charm in real life, such as the character has. He's kind of a natural.

I once read a K/S fanfic (I was bored and had nothing to do, I swear) where Spock did drag for Kirk's benefit.

Just saw Chris in "A Perfect Getaway" - and it was WAY too little screen time IMHO!!! Looked good and only one time did he let his Aussie accent slip in. If I didn't know ahead of time who he was I wouldn't know it was him - probably because of the facial hair and the menacing attitude of his character.

Chris Hemsworth is 6'3," so maybe too tall. He'd be taller than Quinto and Nimoy. (Chris Pine and Leonard Nimoy are both 6'1"; Quinto is 6'2".) Chris Hemsworth's accent they could deal with, but there's no disguising his height.

But yes, if you check the posts from sneak-preview night (May 7), it was apparent right away that the casting was superb -- and that they found more than one person who looked like Kirk.

Well, they ended up choosing Simon Pegg, who has a receding hairline and doesn't look anything like James Doohan.

I loved Hemsworth as George. I think its a shame we won't see more of him (unless there are flashbacks or the reboot timeline is tossed)...

i think we need a picture...

Yes, as über cool as Faran Tahir and Captain Robau are, Chris Hemsworth just towered over him in their famous "walk with me" to the turbolift. Faran Tahir is 5'10".

But Captain Robau stole the scene anyway. What presence!

Robau was so badass, he stole Kirk Sr.'s height.

Oops, sorry. Wrong thread.
